Hello all.
I'm very happy I found this site. It's a place to relieve stress and find others who understand.
Well, my dad fell ill w/pancreatic cancer this past December, the last day of finals. The entire month of December we had off, and instead of relaxing, I was in hospitals and cancer centers with my dad. The new semester began, and I had all hopes of passing but now, I won't be. All in all, with my dad's illness, his repeated times being put into the hospital, and my mom needing me so much was too great a distraction for me.
I feel angry, confused, bitter, guilty for being angry, sad, depressed.....about every emotion that you can feel on the negative side, I have. I wanted this so much. Now I have to wait until the fall to re-apply for the nursing program, and start Med-Surg. 1 all over again. That is only if they accept me back.
I love nursing so much. I told my clinical instructor that it's like when you find the perfect dress for your wedding. No other dress equals it, and you won't have anything less. That is what nursing is to me. I can only hope they accept me again, I am praying they will. For the rest of the semester, (2 weeks left) I will continue to go to classes and fulfill my obligations of tests and homework. I am passing Drug Calculations, Community Nursing, and my Med-Surg. clinical. It's the Med-Surg. theory class I am not passing w/an 84% (that is the cut off point).
Anyway, until I am accepted again, I will continue to come here and read. I will also be reading my Med-Surg. book to gain all the knowledge I can. If anyone else has had to go thru this, please send me a note.
Much love to you all.

I have not gone through it, but I came pretty close in Med-Surg 2. My class lost so many people (we are less than half from when we started), and I lost 2 friends last semester.
Don't give up...KEEP GOING! And try to remember everything happens for a reason. {{{{HUGS TO YOU}}}}

Just wanted to offer support to you. It must have been very difficult to handle nursing school with your father being so ill. Keep your chin up. Maybe you can still get an extern job since you passed the clinical portion. That could help you get more experience as well. Wishing you the best.

I am sorry to hear about your father's illness and my heart goes out to you and your family through this difficult time. I cannot imagine what you are going through but I wish you best of luck in your studies. I really and truly hope you will not give up as this is a rewarding career, it is that perfect dress on your wedding day.
Keep up the good work, med-surg is a difficult subject but with effort it can be accomplished. There is nothing wrong with having delays, you will finish nursing just keep your head up and remain strong.
Best of luck in your future endeavours.

I was in the same situation as you in 2005. My Dad got a massive stroke and was immobile for two years and I had to support my mother. I relocated my dad died 2006 which was another devastation. I started nursing college again 2007 and now have three classes left to finish. God is good all the time, he will pull you through.
