I'm an ER nurse and I love my job because...

I'm not quite an ER nurse yet (hopefully i'll get the job) but I was hoping that some of you ER nurses who love your job could help complete that phrase...

Autonomy, a chance to practice skills, for the most part you don't see the same patient day after day, faster paced.

I've done ER for a long time........it's always a learning curve; every day is different. Plus it's fun to see stupid people tricks!!!

Specializes in ER, Peds, Charge RN.

I like problem solving, not knowing what is wrong when they roll in, but figuring it out and treating it before they leave. It's like a team of detectives really, but with the human body.

I enjoy always being busy, I am respected and listened to by our Physicians, and I love the mix of illnesses coming through the door.

you don't become stagnant.

Specializes in ED-CEN/PACU/Flight.

I love the fact that there is ALWAYS something to learn, to see, to do... And you'll always have the capacity to be amazed by the human body.

And you'll never be able to say, "Nothing they (the patients) can do will surprise me." Just when you say it or think it, that's when something really OFF the wall will come rolling in and you'll have to find unique ways to solve your problem.

You learn something new every day! and like EDValerie said...It is like playing detective! And, it is fun playing "guess what shows up on the utox" or "how high is his BA?"

If you get a pt you really like, you enjoy taking care of them, are grateful for the chance to meet them (even if briefly) and either send them home or to the floor...If you get a pt who makes your teeth hurt:saint: you get to treat them and street them:)

Specializes in ER.

..... I can never dread going to work, because I never know what I will be doing!! Each day is different, some are boring, some are exciting, some are bloody, and well of course some days just suck. But since I never know what lies ahead I can never dread it.

Specializes in Trauma, Teaching.

I'm an adrenaline junkie

You treat'em and street'em. (lol)

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I love the chaos!

Specializes in Emergency Room.

"you treat 'em and street 'em" AMEN!!!

I love my job because it is crazy and wacky and sometimes slow enough to read a little. I also like (don't think I'm crazy) not getting too emotionally involved with my patients.
