I like problem solving, not knowing what is wrong when they roll in, but figuring it out and treating it before they leave. It's like a team of detectives really, but with the human body.
I enjoy always being busy, I am respected and listened to by our Physicians, and I love the mix of illnesses coming through the door.
I love the fact that there is ALWAYS something to learn, to see, to do... And you'll always have the capacity to be amazed by the human body.
And you'll never be able to say, "Nothing they (the patients) can do will surprise me." Just when you say it or think it, that's when something really OFF the wall will come rolling in and you'll have to find unique ways to solve your problem.
You learn something new every day! and like EDValerie said...It is like playing detective! And, it is fun playing "guess what shows up on the utox" or "how high is his BA?"
If you get a pt you really like, you enjoy taking care of them, are grateful for the chance to meet them (even if briefly) and either send them home or to the floor...If you get a pt who makes your teeth hurt:saint: you get to treat them and street them:)
