Hello all,

I have question. How old were you when you became a nurse, how long did it take you to complete the program?

I'm 31, will be 32 in October. I seriously feel too old to continue with school. Single mother of two, 12 y/o & 9 y/o. Ugh, nursing is all I ever wanted but I don't know anymore. It's so tough to get into a program here in Chicago. I get so down about it. I'm wrapping up my prerequisites.

24. It took me 2 years. I already had a BA in Psych and had worked after college before going back.

You are fine. You do know how young you are, right? Everything is in front of you.

You will be 40 someday. May as well be 40 and an RN, if this is what you've always wanted.

If anything you should do it for your children. Children love to see their parents succeed. I'm 36 and just got my RN in January '15. There were plenty of students in my class older than me.

28, but I had plenty of older classmates, and classmates that were single mothers (my best friend in school was a single mother of two -- I saw how challenging it was for her, but she did it). I attended a 3-year hospital-based diploma program (started when I was 25). We attended year-round, got two weeks off at Christmas and two weeks off in the summer -- so, 33 months of full-time study.

Was just having a down day. I will keep it up. My 12 y/o Ariana helps me study and makes sure I have classical music playing to help me focus, haha. She's the best.

Medical Assistant at age 21, LPN at age 30, RN at age 31. Life-long learning!

FYI, even in late 20's & early 30's, I was obviously not the youngest in my nursing school class, but was nowhere near the oldest. A good mix of age groups helps contribute to a variety of learning mechanisms, opinions, methodologies, etc. Keep at it!
