If you wear Danskos.... How often do you replace shoes?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

I've never had a pair of Danskos, but bought something that the shoe salesman said was very similar called an Ariat. They were extremely comfortable for the first 6 months that I had them. I could work 12 hours and my feet and back felt great. Now I come home after work and my back is still good, but my feet are killing me. I feel like I need to go to bed with ice packs on the bottom of my feet.

I stopped in a shoe store today to look at the Dansko shoes again (it was a toss up between the Dansko or the Ariat when I bought the first pair). It seems insanely fast to me for those shoes to have broken down already.

How often do you have to replace your Dansko shoes? Do you replace them right away when your feet start to hurt?

Oh, and they hold up forever!

I used to have a pair of Danskos and I loved them. It was hard to get used to at first as I never wear high heels....like never. But I loved them. My husband called them cinder blocks :roflmao: and I cannot remember what happened to them, I think someone threw them out at my old job

I will buy some new ones when I start my new nursing job ?

I'm also interest in how long they last. I bought a pair the other day and I'm waiting for them to be shipped. I owned Nikes for the past 6 months and they have been killing my feet and back for the past month. I'm hoping the Danskos help, but they seem like they will take a little time of getting used to them.

I've never noticed them "breaking down" or a change in how they feel. I generally wear one pair every single day (even when not working) for a year or two, then buy another pair. Right now I have seven pairs, and I just put some of my older ones back into rotation. The oldest pair, that I wore all over Turkey and Spain, walking 10-12 miles/day, still feel just as good on my feet.

I'm considering buying a pair. Not to hijack this thread, but for those of you that had to "break them in" how did your feet feel? Did they just hurt or did you get blisters as well?

Thanks!

(Again, sorry for thread hijack!)

I gave up on trying to break in expensive nursing clogs, not to mention nearly twisting my ankle several times as I turned corners. I now happily wear running shoes, which can be machine-washed as needed, are always comfy, and never need breaking in.

Danskos were too heavy for me. I didn't like them at all and never wore them after the first few shifts I worked in them. I went back to New Balance, which I swear were made for me---they always fit, didn't need breaking in, and made me light on my feet. Naturally, I had to replace them every few hundred miles, but they were only about $60 a pair so buying new ones didn't require a major investment.

Never had to break them in. Wore them from day 1 for a 12-hour shift. Just make sure they're loose enough; that's the biggest mistake.

I have a soft spot for Danskos, but I find the footbeds to be really hard, and the height of the sole tends to make it easier to roll my ankle. I still wear my Dansko mary janes sometimes, but for comfort and stability, I like my Keen "Sisters" mary janes. They're not as attractive as Danskos, but they are far lighter and less clunky.

If you go with Danskos, always try on the pair that you intend to buy. Do not buy them online or sight unseen.

I wear Sketchers exclusively now. As far as how long a shoe should last, well that depends on your weight, how much walking you do, etc. I like the Sketchers because I can throw them in the washer, then let air-dry. I started buying a half-size, to a full-size bigger shoe than I actually wear, and now my feet never hurt!

I love my Danskos! I'm a nursing student, so I only wear them about 3 times a week for clinical but they have lasted me 3 years already. I have very high arches so they are perfect for me. They didn't take too long to break in, but they do take some getting used to. I'm thinking about buying another pair with a cute pattern for this summer!

I've been wearing Danskos for years-even before I was a nurse. Mine usually last about 4-5 years. I now own Dansko boots, too. My only complaint about the clogs is that it's easy to roll an ankle. But, my back never hurts when I wear them.
