Should I be a nurse: I am going to scream! How in the HE double hockey sticks are we supposed to know what is right for you?? I am sorry if I sound rude not my intent, but it just makes me wonder, do you have to have all your decisions made by another person if so you ARE going to have a hard time being a burse. I am a EMT and if I had to ask someone to do XYZ before I do what I know needs to be done, I would have a poor patient outcome. Sorry but this is getting old
"I've been a PCA on this floor throughout nursing school and now that I graduated they won't hire me!!! They're just jealous and mad that I probably know more than them because I'm young. Plus they're afraid I'll take over their jobs. Whine, whine, whine, rant, rant, rant."
I've heard this from at least 3 nursing students I work with and I always want to say to them...
"No, sweetie you didn't get hired because you're an incredibly lazy PCA who rolls your eyes and huffs and puffs when asked to do a simple thing like empty a hat or change someone because it interferes with your texting and internet surfing. Actually with some of the idiotic stuff you did as a PCA I would be terrified to have you as a nurse anyways."
"This seems to be a popular topic but could you give me advice on_____"....well, just what new advice (or advise) do you think we can give you that the other 2,000 responses on the other 1,000 similar threads (that you probably didn't even bother to use the search function on) that was already given?...not to mention, odds are that this very topic was posted about 2 weeks ago.......aaaccckkkkkkkk:eek:
Double kudos.
This has been a darned PIA thorn in my side every single time I read a post here lately. Geez, learn to spell and know the difference between advice & advise.
This will be the nurse who writes a post asking for help because she gave dopamine when the order was dobutamine.
And, my advice would be to advise a remedial writing course.
Now my time is too important to actually read what everyone else has written, but it's vitally important that you know MY opinion because after all, what I have to say is so much more important than what you've said, so I apologize if this has already been said because of course, I didn't actually read the thread, but it's all because nurses eat their young.
I'm a former patient/pre-nursing student/CMA/CNA/RT/EMT, but my opinion is...
Wow. As a RT, I came to this site becaues I was making a career change but stayed away for a while because of sentiments such as this. See some things never change. It's amazing how no one values other disciplines until they need us.
I'm amazed at all the people posting that want the members here to do their homework for them! I graduated nursing school my doing my OWN work, thank you, you should consider doing the same!
Why can't those people use google scholar, or better yet....access the many nursing databases that every College provides?? That's how I found my research during my BSN program. If they can't learn to think on their own, perhaps nursing isn't a wise career choice.
LOL, a few years ago something was going on with one of my patients and the family said, "are you going to call one of the residents?" I said, " No, I would never call anyone who knows less than I do!"
I had a parent argue with me over how to get her kid to take oral clindamycin because the resident said to mix cherry syrup in it, and I said to put chocolate syrup on the tip of the syringe (taught to me by my mentor that actually DOES know EVERYTHING there is to know about peds nursing), that mixing it in just creates MORE VOLUME while not covering up the taste. So I said fine, mixed in cherry syrup. And the front of the kid's shirt got 80% of the dose while mom's face got the other 20%.
Obviously someone that has professionally forced medication down kids' throats for years knows less than the resident who is doing her peds rotation before she moves on to whatever high paying specialty she actually wants to do and has never actually ADMINISTERED a medication to anyone.
I never cared about what other people posted until the other day I saw a post "Should I wear my hair up or down?" Seriously, that's not a decision you can make yourself? And got mad when someone asked if it was a joke. And another was about make-up, how much is enough/what kind should I wear for OR/ER/ICU/med-surg, etc.
Now my time is too important to actually read what everyone else has written, but it's vitally important that you know MY opinion because after all, what I have to say is so much more important than what you've said, so I apologize if this has already been said because of course, I didn't actually read the thread, but it's all because nurses eat their young.
Well, it makes sense with your time issue that you'd eat young ones (as has been said, they're like chicken).... less stringy stuff to have to take TIME to pull out of your teeth
But, if you're pretty and skinny, we should all be privileged to just be graced with your letting us hear your words of wisdom
