Should I be a nurse: I am going to scream!:banghead: How in the HE double hockey sticks are we supposed to know what is right for you?? I am sorry if I sound rude not my intent, but it just makes me wonder, do you have to have all your decisions made by another person if so you ARE going to have a hard time being a burse. I am a EMT and if I had to ask someone to do XYZ before I do what I know needs to be done, I would have a poor patient outcome. Sorry but this is getting old

If you would have looked at it more closely, that comment included people who are lay-people, pre-nursing students, etc. If you're actually in nursing school, that's great, and there are student forums where you can talk to other career changers. But to have non-nurses jump into a nursing discussion gets really frustrating. No one said other disciplines weren't valued. It does get frustrating, though, to have non-nurses tell experienced nurses, "You should have done this/that." If you're not a nurse, it can be hard to understand everything that goes into a complex nursing situation. While the site administrator has said that others are welcome, the home page does say this site is "nurses talking to nurses." So if a nurse comes here to vent about a nursing problem, she's probably going to want to talk to one of her nursing peers...someone who understands where she's coming from.

I did look at it closely, and that is what dismayed me. It also included fellow medical personel that are down in the trenches right beside a nurse. If someone is trying to tell you how to do your job, I can understand how that would be frustrating. Happens to RTs all the time but it someone is mearly participating in a group forum and may be able to give some insight or another point of view, I don't see the problem with that. In my former position, I worked WEO & we all mostly had only each other to turn to. Both RN & RT were crosstrained in some areas, so I ended up learning a lot of things that were actually not part of my college training. I would NEVER assume that because I have had to train in some aspects of nursing that I would ever truly know what a nurse goes through but I have had the pleasure of working with some wonderul nurses who have shared a lot. That's one of the reasons I decided on the career change. Several nurses encouraged me to do so because I had taken on so much that was considered "non RT". It's just very disheartning to come to inclusive sites like this & see this type of sentiment. So I guess if I were to read something from a nurse & I should happen to have dealt with that issue successfully in the past, I won't comment or I will strictly stay in areas of this board that would welcome me. Not trying to start a RT/RN war so I will leave this alone after this. We will have to respectfully agree to disagree. Have a blessed day.

OMG! I remember you! I was hanging out with Flo one night, and discovered an unknown fact about her...she was actually the pioneer of rap. Her nickname was "Fly Flo-Ni".

She rapped this little ditty one night when we got slap-happy after studying for 18 hours straight:

"So you got yourself into a fight, right?

And you need a stitch while your're in the ditch, right?

Well I got some thread

For your head

And I brought my lamp

From my camp

So we can fix you up even when there's no light!

Just take yourself a rest, son

I'll let you know when I'm done

I'll get you up and run-nin'

Gotta keep you out of the gun-nin'

Yeah, I'm the cute girl with the bun

Don't forget I'm number ONE!

Holla!"

Yeah, she said 'holla'. Bet y'all didn't think she was that cool, huh?

LOL, made me want to break out in a little hip hop dance!! Instead of busting a move, I'm just trying not to bust a hip!:yeah:

My patient from clinical this past week had a fever and the physician wrote an order for "more cowbell" is this a valid order?

You'll need to get a clarification. How much does he want to increase the cowbell? You need to get parameters. Cowbell is dangerous. And addicting. You'll probably want to get daily cowbell levels.

Oh, I know....

It took me over a year to personally kick my Cowbell habit...it wasn't a pretty sight...:smokin:

I had to go to rehab...and then CA....

(you know like AA)....

Be very, very vigilant...

Dude, you're killing the fun of this thread. How would you like it if I told you that you didn't have a clue how to give a breathing treatment. We get that kind of crap all the time here. From carpenters. From pharmacists. From CNAs. From students. Don't get holier than thou on us and it won't be a problem. Don't kill our fun thread and it really won't be a problem.

I know a nurse that's a recovering cowbell addict. Should I report her to the BON? I know she's in recovery, but what if she starts diverting cowbell?

No, first give her the benefit of the doubt...if you actually see her with Cowbell.... you need to make sure that it's not her's legally....first I would speak to her about it...take her aside and ask..now, if you have actually witnessed her diverting the Cowbell, well, that's another story....and you may want to report...

You may be saving her life...

Many, many careers and lives are ruined by the scourge that is Cowbell....it is a evil master...

I've been using the triangle on my days off. I know people say it's a gateway to the cowbell, but it's only on my days off. Will it show up in a drug test? I just applied to my dreeeeeeeeam job and should I call them to tell them that I have a prescription for cowbell, which I don't but I could just tell them that I do and they'll believe me right??? Plz hlp!!!!!!1!!1!!!!!!!11

I have been doing a little research, and I understand that rehab centers are now suggesting that you should begin treatment with the new cow pattie patch when you first start wanting more of the triangle and it stops the craving for the more dangerous cowbell. I'm just sayin'. They both show up on the drug test, but employers might look more kindly on it.

Will they tell me when they're going to drug test me ahead of time??

I'm about to graduate with my AND, will I be considered a new nurse??

If my patient has symptoms x, y, and z do I have to check all of their vitals, or can I just take their temp?

Should I check their blood sugar before I give their diabetes meds?

:banghead:

You are skating on thin ice my friend...for the newest drug tests test for TCM....that's Triangle, Cowbell and the dreaded, dare I say it in polite company, Maracas!!!!!!!!!!

So, beware....it starts out with a few innocent uses of triangle, progresses to cowbell and before you know it, you are trapped into a life of despair and degradation with a Maraca on your back..................:uhoh3:

Besides, do not tell your new job you have a script...b/c then they will all want one too......................

Beware!

I just started my new job and I have to work some Friday evenings and some weekends. I don't think this is fair. I miss my family when I work weekends.

There are people here with no kids - shouldn't they work more weekends so I can spend time with my family? And what about Christmas? I don't think I should have to work Christmas. the older nurses whoses children have moved away should work it.
