I'd go for RN right away. Here once you finish the first year, you can sit for the LPN boards so why not?

Hi there. I considered doing that, but realized that with 4 extra months of school, I could graduate as an RN. With a degree as an RN, I have more oppertunities and better pay. It all depends on what you're looking for and what you can do. Good luck with your decision.

Hmmm... I really want to be an RN, but waiting to get in the program gets so discouraging at times. I guess patience is a virtue. :uhoh3: I don't think I can sit for the LPN boards in my RN Program, but then again I haven't asked. I'll call the school on monday and see if they offer that. I don't think there is any difference, I think they just use different terms in different areas of the country.

If you had a choice, would you become an LPN first or do the RN first. Is it beneficial to do the LPN to RN. For those of you who have done it this way, do you regret it?

I would definitely go straight for your goal in the first place if at all possible.

There's not any difference, as mitchsmom said. One is Practical, the other Vocational.

Only Texas and California use the term LVN. (If I'm not mistaking.)

I think if you want to be an RN go for the RN, but it would never hurt to do a short CNA course and work as a CNA while you are doing your pre-reqs, if you want. :)

That's just it, I can start the LPN Program first, actually all I am waiting for is my acceptance letter from the LPN Program, which I heard is on its way. Someone at work told me that if I do my LPN first then Nursing classes would be so much easier ........ :stone what to do....what to do.... I'm going to mull this over for a few weeks. I would only do the LPN if I was in need of having a job and money faster. If not I would do RN and i would do BSN. I am getting my BSN right now. It will provide me with more opportunity for advancement, some hospitals do pay BSNs more. And I can get my masters someday and become a supervisor or become a midwife and open my own birth clinic.
