I am in the process of putting together a clinical "cheat sheet" for my first semester students. What information would you have loved to have had in a miniature booklet for clinicals? So far, I have:
normal vitals by age range
normal labs for adults
ABG info (trying to make it something they will use in later semesters)
mini skills review cards (injections, NG tubes, cath, etc)
small map of the floor they will be working on
helpful facility phone numbers
objectives for that rotation
my cell phone number
Any other suggestions??
Depending on what kind of floor your working on we used to have staging of pressure ulcers, common medical abbreviations (in case you forget something stupid), a quick review of the organs located in each of the abdominal quadrants, glasgow coma scale, insulins with peak times, and a burn chart with the rule of nine's. Don't know if any of that is helpful for the type of class you are teaching. Good luck..you sound like a great teacher.
I'm in my final semester of school, but please... come be my clinical instructor! You seem like an awesome first year teacher. I wish mine was more like that instead of slapping our hands when we didn't do something her way. LOL
I wish I could have a copy of your cheat sheet too! Seems like a great idea. good luck with it.
I tried to upload this but it is a publisher file and apparently that's not a valid file extension. I converted it to PDF, and strangely, it has made a double image of everything, lol. Not sure why! Print one for a friend I suppose. I've attached the pdf version for you. It is 26 pages, should print at large index card size.
Obviously, much of this is copy/paste from other sites and images to create one giant packet.
You are great for thinking to put this through and helping your students. I am all for you sending me one as well.
Definitely include ABG's normal values. The quick head to toe is awesome, and can you include some EKG's if you can.
Oh, please send them to me as well when you are done....LOL
Wished you were one of my instructors.

I also have the RN notes pocket guide and the meds pocket guide along with a few others that seem to help me out.
