  1. My dad worked at the community college I did all my pre reqs at so I got 12 credits free every term. I don't really count my first two years as costing, since I also lived at home. I am starting my BSN program at a private school Feb 8th. The school costs about 20,000 a year, so my total should be around 50,000 in the end. I am applying to a ton of scholarships this January. Private school is very expensive, but the only BSN schools in Oregon are private.
  2. I am so going to print this off for me and one of my nursing student friends. I do not know how to print it off on large index cards though. Would you do that with a regular printer?

That is some great advice! I will look into internships at the hospitals we'll do our clinicals at, I didn't know they had those. And following a nurse is a great idea. I have heard that good footwear is very important. What brands do you recommend?

So here is my question...I am about to start nursing school in February. I was wondering if any nurse or nursing student would take a minute and offer the best advice you have for a future nurse and future nursing student. Please list the type of nursing you do, your favorite and least favorite part about nursing, how you felt during school, your years of experience, and any other thing you would like to add in there. Any advice would be nice :loveya: Happy Halloween
  6. I haven't graduated from college yet, I won't until may 2012. I will be about 60,000 plus in debt. I was highly considering joining the Navy for 4 years after I graduate. My question is, when you're a nurse in the Navy will they pay for me to start a NP program while I work for them? Does anyone know anything about how the Navy helps you pay for continuing education after you join? Thanks a bunch!
  7. Great idea Amanda, I was thinking about doing something like that. I could probably even live off of less than 30,000 a year, if i tried hard and got a few roomates lol. I'm glad you can still qualify for cars/homes , because this money stuff is all new to me and that was one of the things i was affraid of. Thanks for the tips!
  8. do you get paid while doing these residencies?
  9. Have you tried looking for jobs in other areas? Or are you set on a certain area. There are a lot of hospitals in Cali that will take people and also the navy or army they would help you pay for school.
  10. I've heard of that program. I think they have that at a few of the other Oregon CC's i got into LBCC but they didnt have that program. SO do you have to apply to the Bachelor program or are you in it right when you get your RN?
  11. OH my gosh, that information soulds amazing! I've done online classes and i actually like them a lot. I can be strict on myself when it involves school, so i think that school might be right up my alley. Thanks for the help!
  12. wow that is a really good deal. I know it's expensive to go to linfield but compared to the other school i got into it was the best and we only have private BSN schools in Oregon. I will probably look into an employment reimbursement program or maybe there is an army reserve for nurses. Congrats on being about to finish! ANyone know how much grad school is for NP?
  13. So here is my general question. I am a 20 year old heading to get my BSN at Linfield college. I really want to go on after I get my BSN and become an NP. I have no children and am not married so everyone keeps telling me to go for it. I have gone to community college for all of my pre reqs and have not had any debt yet, but when i go to Linfield a private school, I will end up in about $60,000 of debt! I know that with nursing i will be able to pay it back down the road, but i want to go tp nurse practitioner school after a year of working as a nurse and specialize in womens health. Does anyone know how much more NP school is and how i can reach my goal in the time tine i want to? I was thinking about joining the Navy or Army after i get my NP but I really want to start a family after. I have a lot of scholarships and will continue to apply for more but it never seems like i'll have enough. PLease leave tips and advise, I am getting scared that i may not be able to reach my goals because of money. Also what loans are the best for nursing school? I'm about to take a big chunk of money from somewhere, i was thinking about medcap through Wells fargo? Thanks!
  14. Hey So I am not graduating soon at all, i actually dont start nursing school until february but i have talked to many nurses and many of my friends who just graduated. My friends that resently graduated said that they took a class to help prep and that no one knows everything, they didn't even feel like they passes until they saw that they did. My advice is to study a little bit everyday, gain confidence in yourself, and go get a massage. From my nursing friends who have worked a few years, they all say you dont know anything when you first start, sometimes you get in the way more than help, and you will not be a confident nurse until about the 1 year mark. Like everything, nursing will take a while to get all the skills down. i have faith in you so you need to too! Good Luck in your entire future!
  15. congrats!! i'm way excited for my school to start up, i start february name: whitney age:20 family: it's just me right now :) but i have my parents and friends for support school: linfield program attending: bsn what will your schedule be: i'm not even sure! i know the classes are m-f but not all day or 5 days a week. what are you goals after you finish the program: i'm going to go on, after i get some of my loans paid off, i really want to become a np for womens health. do you have current health care experience: i have my cna1 and cna2 andf am trying to get a job right now in a hospital before i head north for ns! also my mother is a diabetic so i have some knowledge in that area
