ICU JOB OFFER

I got an offer for ICU in california , i was offer $29 ( night shift so i am assume there is no differential) with a 2-year contract. I am really nervous to get into contract since the pay is to low. what you guys think? Also i am New grad with no experience.

I would take it. Once you have experience you can go elsewhere with better pay.

Where in California, because 29 is horrible depending on the location? Do a spreadsheet to see if you can actually afford to live on your own, pay bills etc.

Orange County, I have to move since I live in LA and I am the only provider for a family of 4 plus I help my parents on a monthly basis. I am weighing my options . I really love ICU and it is my dream job but the commitment of 2 years is scaring me since I am not sure if they will give me a rise or not. My classmates got job at HUCLA $45 an hour.

I would take it. Once you have experience you can go elsewhere with better pay.

I would take it in heart beat if it wasn't for the 2 years contract I have to sign.

If this is that Tenet facility that I think it is RUN RUN RUN RUN..Orange county +4 kids+only provider+aiding parents heck I don't know how you can swing that. unless you are close to eviction...I would consider other work.

Look at Fresno or Bakersfield. Lower cost of living for a large family. I just don't see how you can make it in LA or the OC with that family size.

There is no way you will make it in the OC with a family for $29 an hour. Maybe if you were single and could get a roommate, MAYBE. But not with a family. I live in Bakersfield, the cost of living is a fraction of the cost of SoCal, and as a new grad I'm starting at about $34/hr + differentials + free benefits for my entire family.

Exactly the location I advised the poster to look at. Bakersfield is not far from LA.Housing is cheap for your family.

Besides Fresno and Bakersfield, look at Stockton and Modesto.

Maybe it is time you consider leaving California. My family member had to do that because she had too many kids and went to the midwest. I know uprooting is hard but, no need to struggle with that much responsibility. A place like Texas or Georgia would be good for a family of that size.

Thanks for ur advice. To correct I only have 2 kids . We are a family of 4 . I have another interview coming up next week so hopefully I get a better offer, since I did all my clinicals there. Manager said that he remembers me from being on the floor so hopefully that gets me the job . I survived for couple years making $10 an hour as caregiver. I will make it with $29 is just the contract part that makes me feel uncomfortable

They are trying to sign you for cheap labor which is exploitation. I hope you get a better offer.
