I want to tell the story, Is it a HIPPA violation?

Published

Something absolutely crazy and absurd happened at work this weekend. I want to tell the story but it is so strange I'm afraid if I tell it, even without using names it will violate hippa or something... I'm very distraut and I've never heard of any nurse having something like this happen before.

Can I tell the story?

Nic.

I am dying to find out too.

When in doubt, fudge a few of the details such as sex, age, how long ago you cared for the patient, etc...Nothing that would change the point of the story or affect the answer to a question you may have about a certain situation.

I am always very vague about where I work because I don't want anyone I know IRL to be able to identify me here. I don't even tell anyone I visit this web site because I don't want anyone trying to guess who I am online.

I'm not paranoid. :uhoh21: No, really...I am not paranoid....Really.

I'm not paranoid, either, but "if the info can be traced back to the patient/situation" is a pretty high standard. Particularly if the situation was truly unique.

The OP decided that giving out this information was not in her best interest.

We must respect this and I certainly do.
