Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

And I will never do that again! :rotfl: Three + long hours of testing, no talking, butt hurting, neck sore, shhhh did I mention no talking?

Three parts to the test. First was verbal. 80 questions in 60 minutes. We had no problem getting this section done in time. It started with the meaning of words in a sentance and to me, most were not words I had ever heard used before so that was difficult to decide what they meant. They also had the paragraphs to read and then answer questions afterwards. This was easy, just time consuming. We could write in the packet so I underlined what I thought was important as I scanned and then could quickly look back if I didn't remember the answer.

Second part was the dreaded math. All I can say it know your percents and fractions. This was 54 questions in 60 minutes and many did not finish. You could do your long hand in the packet so no need to bring scratch paper.

Third was Science. I love science, but hated this section. 80 questions in 60 minutes and we were able to finish. There were quite a few questions regarding cells and their functions. But what I hated was they would list a name and we had to know their theory. I know I had at least two of these questions and had never heard of their name and didn't recognize the name of the theory to even guess. Another was a hand-drawn picture of a cell and asking what kind of cell is it, human, plant etc. I couldn't figure that one out. I guessed at a lot of questions in this section.

Overall, I don't feel like I did well enough on this test. I should know in about a month.

good luck to all who have to take this test and if you already have tell us your experience.

I didn't feel like I had enough time to do the reading comprehension part. I didn't answer like 10 questions in that section - just ran out of time! Frustrating.

I had a lot of questions on electricity in the science section. I can't remember all the other stuff, but that stuck out (I took the test twice - once about 12 years ago, and then about 3 years ago) since I couldn't figure out WHY a nurse would need to know about OHM's and stuff. Then someone told me it was just an overall type of knowledge test, but still - electricity??? All I know about it is that I like a light to come on when I flick the switch UP! LOL

I took the test in Jan., my composite score was 77%. I am taking it again in March to hopefully bring up my score. I did study the review for the RN exam, but I did not do well with math. Yuck! I want to bring up my science score also. They told us that there were 3 different tests so no one could cheat off their neighbor's paper. I am wondering if one is any easier than the others. When it came to the math, my mind went blank. Even things I know like how to change a percent to a fraction. She gave us a 5 min. warning and I still had 2 whole rows of answers to fill in! I just started filling in circles! Does anyone know about improving test scores like Apex. These claim to improve your score. I have never tried it.

Hi...

I'm gonna take NLN Exam this March 5

A little nervous...a lot anxious

Coz it means "ACCEPT" or "REJECT" for my application I just submitted to a nursing school

I'm ok with the Math part, it's English and Science that kinda worry me

I never take a high school physics class and I can't seem to get the hang of it :crying2:

3-hr is a long time...could I bring a pillow for my butt or something for my neck? ha ha ha...what about bathroom breaks?

pillow not a bad idea, no calculators, and they escort you to and from the bathroom.

I did really well though so I cant complain.

Still waiting on my acceptance though.

Hi everyone,

I'm from New Orleans and i'm new to this forum. I know how you all feel about that test!! it was difficult! I took my test in Jan and the score i need to even get accepted is a 100 and that's the lowest. The higher the score the better. Well I did not even get close to that score. I will be taking it again around July. I heard that there are prep classes you can take for these types of test. Has anyone heard of this? The hardest part to me was the science becasue they had a lot of Chemistry and Physics and our nursing school does not even require those classes!! it's very frustrating becasue how do you study for something that you never took before and you really don't have to take!! I to blanked out on the math part, i was nervous and i was trying to finish before time was up! A friend of mine who took the test said NOT to circle in answers you don't know. This will count against you. I did this as well so that was probabley why i didn't pass.

Good luck to those who will be taking it again soon!

What your friend said about the NLN is not true. If you look at the offical NLN study guide it says that you should try and finish all of the questions. You have at least 4 chances on the multiple choice to get it right. It is better to guess then just get it wrong. Besides at the beginning of the test it states that some of the questions are not included in the final score that they are used as experimental questions for future tests. It is a timed test...there is no time to sit and think about a question. You either know it or you don't. Fill in something and move on.
