  1. Anybody know the starting salary for HHC hospital? Like Bellevue, Queens, Elmhurst, etc... Any benefits (health insurance, sick days, holidays, eand such) would be helpful too. Thank you in advance. :)
  2. I've gained 10 lbs during the last 2 years of Nursing School. It was the stress, bad eating habit, and lots of sitting for hours to study. That was when I took the train and walked 15 minutes to school! Now I'm in the 5th month of work on a busy Med/Surg floor and I've lost 8 lbs. I work Night Shift and packed my own lunch. Still eat a LOT on my nights off. More walking and physical activities on the job, but now I drive to work. But I've noticed that I eat healthier. Less junk food, soda, candy, etc... Even though I don't have much time to eat, still try to grab hot soup and a turkey sandwich. Could lose 5-10 more lbs, but after that I might have to drink Ensure!
  3. Hi...I'm trying to find some Dickies scrubs because I saw that they have LOTS of pockets, tops and bottoms!!! And for someone who's petite like me they actually fit. I already went to some stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn, but only saw Cherokees and other brands. If anybody knows where I can find Dickies Scrubs I'll greatly appreciated it. :nuke:
  4. New York city area Full time New Grad = 63+ K (Could be a few thousands higher depend on each hospital) BSN differential = 1100 Night Differential = 5200 I don't know the hourly rate.
  5. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  6. Mine is one page. Keep it nice, neat, clean, unclustered. Easy to read and eye catching! Like S.T.A.C.E.Y said managers generally don't have time or want to read a lengthy resume. Most of the time they just glanced at it. :)
  7. I'm entirely sure if the stores in Brooklyn have Littmann. I saw some stethoscopes but didn't really pay attention to the brand. I got my Littmann online which is cheaper (free shipping & no tax)! Maybe you can look around on the net and see which websites have a good deal for you. :nuke:
  8. That store on 23rd street has moved to 2nd Ave. between 24th and 25th street. Today I went there and couldn't find cheap nice scrubs. The nice ones are so expensive! :zzzzz So my friends took me to Brooklyn, on 4 Train and got off at Nevins St. There are 2 stores around there that sell scrubs, nursing shoes, stethoscope, penlights, etc.. And They are cheaper!
  9. For Brooklyn, my friends did summer externship at Methodist and VA Brooklyn. I also heard that Maimonides has one too. But I don't know what are the deadlines for these hospital. You should contact the hospitals ASAP!
  10. If it's too expensive to live in Manhattan (and I think it is), then find a nice place to live in Brooklyn with half an hour commute time to NYU. Or live in Yonker with a 15-minute train ride to Colombia Presb. It can save you a lot of money. Here's a list of hospitals in NYC. http://hospitals.nyhealth.gov/browse_search.php?rt=R_NY+Metro+-+New+York+City&form=REGION Good luck. :wink2:
  11. is a car necessary? If u plan to attend the school in the city, u don't need a car. There are subway and buses. I live in Queens, and my friends live in Brooklyn, we commuted to our school in the city on a regular basis. No car is needed. Some of us can't even drive :chuckle .
  12. I would also like to know about North Shore LIJ. I applied there and any advice is appreciated. :)
  13. The result is online after 48 hour. The actual license # is a few weeks.
  14. Is the test called NLN? There are some study books for it. I took the NLN 2-3 years ago. The science is pretty basic (I think, but I've been taking science classes since high school and also in college). It's a mixture of many science subjects, there was even some physics. But if u never take a science class, then I suggest a massive study and reviews. The study guide cannot possibly cover ALL questions! But remember there are other parts of the tests also. You could give it a try. Do really good in Math and English part. For myself, I didn't do so good in the English part, but made up for it with the other two (Math and Science). So in my opinion, don't give up yet! Give it a try first! You can do good and be on your way to become a nurse even if u do bad in one part. Nursing School acceptance depends on more than just pre-nursing exam test. There are also your GPAs, Essays, interview, etc... Good luck!!!
