Hi everyone--I am taking anatomy and phisiology I and it has been rough to say the least. I am maintaing a A/B average between lab and lecture, but we have now moved onto muscles and my brain is spinning. I am stressed to the max! I feel like I am worn out from this semester, we only have 5 more weeks left and I just want it to end!
I think I just needed to vent--anyone else feeling run down from class..lol
I heard that muscles were much harder than the bones but it was the opposite for me, maybe my professor made the lab part not as hard as I thought it would be? I got a 39/50 on the lab portion of the exam for the bones but I think I did much better for the muscles (will get it back after spring break). Each bone having like 5 different parts with different names is what made it hard for me, a muscle is just a muscle. The bones being separate and the muscles being part of a limb or full model also made it easier for me. I think I barely have a B in Anatomy so far and we still have 2 exams and I final to go. You can do it OP! I sure as hell hope I can, I'm not getting anywhere close to my schools nursing program with a C in a pre-req science class.
I'm in APII right now and every time I think it can't get worse.... LOL.
I find the whole class gets me high strung. Its super hard since you have such a limited amount of time to cover X amount of material you can't slow down. I'm having a time of it just taking one night class along working full time. Have to sneak in homework and studying at work when I can since there's just not enough time to do it at home without falling behind.
The bones were hard since it wasn't just the bone, it's the bone and it's landmarks and about 2.5 weeks to do it all (plus a boat load of other things you had to learn on top of it). I didn't do great on that one. I don't miss that or the muscles. Ouch. I get more stress on that brand new thing that she goes over the day before a test and then asks many lab questions on said new thing. More visual and sub categories to memorize in 24 hours, on top of new homework and time for study. Fun.
Right now, anything that ends up going into chemical information hurts my brain. For me it's not lack of understanding, it's just trying to retain it. Our teacher doesn't want the overview on what's going on that shows her we get it, she get's very, very, very, very nitpicky and looks for exact numbers and products.
My mother, a very long time nurse says it's nice to know how it works, but in life one will never ask you about it like an AP teacher does. They're a special lot.
Hang in there though, take a walk, deep breaths, watch a favorite show or listen to a favorite song. You'll get through it! :)
PS, if you have a study partner, use them!!! I sadly do not have that option. Nobody has a schedule that works with mine. I even make a PSA out loud to the class on studying. since asking individuals wasn't working No luck.
The quizzes on the Web Anatomy site really helped me.
You need to be solid in Physiology for nursing school. You'll come back to it again & again in Med-Surg, Acute Care, Peds, Mental Health, Chronic Care, etc.
I definitely understand this! I took Human Anatomy a couple semesters ago (my school separates anatomy and physiology) and I also thought learning the bones was hard. Then muscles came along and I truly appreciated how easy it was to learn the skeletal system! For me, the hard part was remembering the origin and insertion of each muscle, as well as learning the muscles on the cat specimens. The cat looked so different than the human models, it was difficult to learn two different species at once! I definitely think muscles were the hardest part of anatomy, though. The brain/nervous system, organs, eye, and ears were much easier for me.
Honestly its not that hard but, then again I took Latin all 4 yrs of HS, which helped me out tremendously when it came to bones/muscles! I remember when I was taking AP1, I came on here and someone recommended flashcards from Amazon/Ebay. So that's exactly what I did! They're called Barron's Anatomy Flash Cards & these consisted of all the body/organ systems, so you can always use them. Once you learn the bones, the muscles become a piece of cake.
I loved the lab part of muscles, learning the placement and function of them was interesting. But the sliding filament theory about killed me. For lab, we had to learn the muscles on the human and the cat, which wasn't too difficult. They have pretty much the exact same placement, but I had to remember that the muscles in the cat (legs at least) are a little different because their limbs are not as "round" (for lack of a better word) as ours. I got an 87 on my muscles lab exam and a 75 (ouch) on my lecture exam.
Now, I am in A&P II. I miss A&P I.
I feel the same. I thought skeletal was hard then I was like omg muscles. Now the nervous system has me confused more. I have 4 weeks and I cant wait for this semester to be over. I have micro, college algebra and nutrition apart from A&P. Its been a tough semester.
Whoa! Micro and Anatomy at the same time??? You are a brave soul!
I loved anatomy and physiology. It's just an awful lot of memorizing for one class.

Great idea!! I just bookmarked Khan Academy! Thanks for the tip!
