I really need any info you may have...Please

Hey everyone,

I have a huge problem! I was scheduled to take NCLEX this week but I ended up in the hospital the night before (Go figure :uhoh3:) Well... I call Pearson the next morning which was the morning of the test and they said there was nothing they could do and that I had to appeal to the NCSBN. I called them and they told me to write them a letter explaining what happened and provide something from the hospital. I had my husband fax it over to them the same day. The two days later I get an e-mail with a letter stating that they do not grant exceptions for ANY reason and that I would need to pay Pearson Vue another $200 and wait 4-6 weeks to get another authorization to test. I am so upset! Why would they tell me to send in an "appeal" and they know they don't even consider helping anyone out. Has anyone ever heard of this situation happening to anyone and if they were able to take the NCLEX without having to pay again??? Someone told me I may even have to pay the BON in my state another licensing fee of $140 on top of the $200. If anyone knows anything... I appreciate it! Thanks for reading.

Exactly what information are you looking for?

You have spoken to the NCSBN regarding the situation, and they have provided their answer quickly and directly.

What other information do you expect to obtain?

You could also pay lawyer a small fee to send a letter to them. I find it hard to believe they can just take your money without rendering services.

Same thing happened to me for my AANP exam. They inadvertently scheduled me for the ANP exam, even though the paperwork I mailed in and all my supporting documentation was for FNP exam, and I still had to pay another $240 to fix it b/c I didn't catch the error until the day of the exam. I'm married to a litigator and it never occurred to me to fight with about it. Poo happens.

I can die now.... I just saw "lawyer" and "small fee" in the same sentence..... :)

Check under the "scheduling" info....no exceptions to the dates within those approved when you scheduled.

When you paid them you also checked a box stating you agree to THEIR TOS and that states NO REFUNDS FOR WHATSOEVER REASON - you're OUT OF LUCK

I hope you feel better....I'm sure all of this doesn't help- but one way to look at it is that you're still able to take the test...even though it's not going to be when you planned to, you're not out of it altogether. :)

Feel better- and just look at the extra study time ... gotta find the good somehow:)

Something similar happened to a friend of mine, except it wasn't a hospital visit. It was a water main break that brought traffic in the area to a standstill for several hours. She couldn't make her appointment for the test, tried to appeal and was denied. Their reason: "no exceptions no matter what."

Not fair, IMO, but they're the ones in control and if we want to take the test we have to play by their rules. Legal action will be a long, slow process and will probably result in you laying out more money than you would have by just paying the registration fee again. You did your best, but I think you may just need to write it off as a loss :(
