I Quit My Job Today! I'm so relieved!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Yep! Quit the job today! Worked half a day, and quit. Won't get into the specifics because I'm suing the hospital, and won't stop there. I'll be on Dr. Phil telling the world about the pains of being a nurse today, and writing every political head that is involved with healthcare making sure they are brought up to date on the pains of nursing as well. I have a strong voice, and I intend to use it for my profession.

Going back to travel nursing, starting with seeking a travel contract in my hometown, then elsewhere. No more BS from those who love to strangle the shick out of nurses today. :nono:

Going on vacation for a few days before I get started with the lawsuit. I believe in standing up for what I believe in even if no one else believes what I believe. That is their choice to disagree, and my choice to pursue what I believe to be justice for myself as a professional nurse.

I'm going to make the world hear what is wrong with nursing today if it is the last thing I take on in my life. :nurse:

Aloha Chearful, you cant go wrong if you follow the bold St.Augustinian saying,"Love and so what you will." .

Fran,I cant address your entire post, but Ill share something personal. For me anger, self righteous or not,is my spiritual enemy. Anger, especially the self righteous kind,is a cover,it covers up my ego,its an excuse to be right,to get revenge and to feel superior to my opponent,it blocks me off from the sunlight of Gods spirit,Jesus Christ, and to follow Gods will.

ohbet,

You seem to be getting the cart before the horse here. I was not addressing (self righteous) anger. Job had that until God made him see it in the last chapter of the book of Job.

(Self righteous) anything is a stench in God's nostrils,) because it allows one to put him/herself equal with, or above God, and is the very reason God cast Lucifer down to earth, and changed his name to Satan.

The Holy Spirit is the very personality of Jesus Christ, and He, through the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells in the hearts of true Christians works wonders. A good example of it is Billy Graham.

If you will go back and read my original post, you will see the example of (righteous) anger I used. It was when Jesus chased the merchants out of the temple, and is the very type of anger the Lord is going to use in the future against those who have hurt the innocent.

Don't you remember reading in your Bible the verse that says, "Vengence is Mine says the Lord?" That is the very type of anger I was addressing, and the type Cheerfuldoer was talking about.

That type of anger fights against injustice, because injustice will destroy anything that is for the betterment of anyone or anything that will improve the quality of and for all, and is the very issue that is being addressed here. I hope this explanation clears up your misunderstanding of what I was talking about.

Sincerely,

Fran:nurse:

Like several who have posted here I too was taken down by a small group of vindictive managers. I had to get an attorney because they found a way to twist a situation into a report to the state BON (who saw through it thank God and vindicated me)

I learned a lot about people and myself through this episode. I also learned, unfortunately, how dysfunctional our system is and how 'the shark pack' can treat an individual...it becomes a feeding frenzy when one is bleeding.

Standing up alone in our current nursing culture has its risks. I am very cautious now in choosing my workplace, my work and how I speak up, and I only work part time hours to reduce my exposure to the stress and frustration in nursing. I look forward to returning to a union area someday where I can work within an organization to improve our situation. I wish you well in your efforts to speak out and improve our situation, Renee. :)

Cheerful, Fran, Ohbet and others who have been hurt physically, emotionally, spiritually doing this job: I wish you all health and healing. I wanted to sue my former employer and the vindictive nurses too..my attorney provided me with a grim education on hearsay, witnesses, proof, etc. Also the expense of pursuing this route. :o

I did a lot of soul searching and a lot of praying and the Lord brought me through it a better wiser person. I hope all here know I am not sharing this to offend those not of my faith, it is just one person's (my) story.

There are better and worse places for our souls to flourish in. I hope all nurses find their 'most tolerable' work environment.

:kiss to all here and may we all enjoy our holiday season.

Thank you 'ohbet, Fran, and mattsmom' for your comments and for sharing of your heart with me regarding this topic. It has been a very painful situation because I KNOW I was attacked and gained up on by the nurse mgr., the employee relations person, and one of the shift mgrs. I will be writing letters this week and sending them to the appropriate "To Whom It May Concern" people.

After a week with my husband's instructions and support, and after a cooling off period, I see no reason to sue the hospital as it was NOT the hospital who wronged me, but several of its employees (mentioned above) who ganged up on me WITHOUT prior notice to me that I was about to walk into a room where they had premeditated motives for attacking my character and judgement. It is THAT abuse that I am seeking attorney advice for, and writing letters about.

I will also keep my word to pursue political involvement in the abuse nurses in our country face day after day in the hospitals around the United States. THAT's a fact Jack! :nurse:

Hi Fran,Im using the idea of self righteous anger as the same with righteous anger,I see you seperate the two. Both of them imply that Im right,my cause is right and could be applied to anyone fighting injustice or pursuing a righteous cause, like Jesus in the temple.

Im just sharing my spiritualliy and how,for me any kind of anger is a hinderance to being filled with Gods spirit. When Im filled lets say with "righteous anger" I need to pray that God removes it and that I be given a vision of his will in the situation.

Yes I understand the role of righteous anger and justice, fighting the good fight.Im just saying I cant handle anger . I cant have a healthy emotional, intellectual or spiritual life with anger in it.Ive found that even righteous anger ought to be left with those who are better able to handle it,lets say like "Jesus in the Temple"

"Love, then do what you will" St. Augustine.

A warm Aloha ,God Bless and Happy Holidays to you Fran

Hello ohbet,

I see your point, and I do respect your opinion. It's been a pleasure discussing with you. And you have a good holiday season as well.

Bless you,:kiss

I have it in my heart to begin a segment on "Horizontal Violence" in our ADN curriculum--a good place would be under our Leadership Course. I don't believe any textbooks address this phenomenon, so I will have to develop the course material myself "from scratch." I believe students need to be warned and forearmed. I know I wasn't and didn't have a clue. Right out of school, I started working in a unit that ate me alive and this nearly destroyed my nursing career before it even had a chance to get started.

What a wonderful idea, Vicky. That would be an excellent beginning anyway.:)

Violence in nursing period would be an excellent topic of discussion. I've never seen so much backstabbing and revenge in my life when it comes to nursing today!

How about starting a seperate forum here called "Violence in Nursing" so nurses from across the globe can contribute their concerns and suggestions as to how to alleviate the violent path nursing has taken?

I'm hoping to gather as much material as possible to take with me to Dr. Phil's Show (providing he agrees to have a show regarding this topic in nursing). :D

Vicky....Start the thread.....we'll come! :nurse:
