I was picked in the lottery!!!

O M G, I am soooo happy right now! Out of 585 applications, my name came up in the first 100, which means I should get into Spring 2014 at CCSF (they pick 50 for fall; 50 for spring). Nothing's set in stone until I get the official letter, but I'm still going to celebrate!!!

I begin my volunteering at JMMC next month :-). I'm still on the fence about going to CCSF in Spring, but waiting to start the NVC program in Fall 2015 seems like forever & I'm not getting any younger :-/. Money is also an issue because I would need to get financial aid to cover all my living expenses at least for the first semester and I don't know if I'll get enough in aid. The major issue is accreditation though. Without a concrete vow that if the school loses accreditation, it will ensure we will be placed in another accredited program, I won't feel comfortable to take that gamble. Argh, but if I didn't have to worry about finances, I would take the gamble in a heartbeat!

Have any of you heard anything more concrete from anyone at the school or in the current program?

didnt you get the letter in the mail from the nursing department chair about the issue? She assured us she wouldnt leave us hanging and the nursing program is commited to having the students finish at least somewhere. If your not getting any younger then why wouldnt you start in the spring?? The City Attorney is suing the Commision that tried to close them therefore while an lawsuit is in progress the school cannot close. I would email the nursing department chair if you have concerns. I think it will be okay, at least for a couple of years.

it would be nice to hear of people in the program right now?? anybody out there?

Yep, I got the letter, and before that, I had received an email from the program chair saying basically the same thing the letter said. However, vaguely saying they won't leave us hanging is hardly a guarantee, which is exactly what I would require before committing to the program. I emailed again a few days ago and have not heard back yet.

I would love to hear from anyone that just started the program this fall. Anyone... Beuller?

Hello! I was originally accepted for Spring 2014 with you guys, but I got into Merritt in Oakland, and it was much closer.. so I went with that school. Just some FYI while you guys are in down time right now.. start brushing up on your math, learn how to convert within one system(metric to metric) and from one system to another (metric to households.. mL's to cups) start learning abbreviations if you don't know them yet. like prn,NPO... learn drip factors... and it is never to early to learn normal lab values and pharmacology. School goes by soooo fast, and you barely have time for any personal time, so really enjoy that time most of all!!! :) Hope this helps!

Nice congrats!! yeah I took the summer nursing math and I need to brush up on it again. I see Samuel Merrit people do there clinicals all the time at cpmc. Also have you heard of the preceptorship? it's a neat program after school anyone can apply to. Thanks for the advice and good luck ! ??

Anyone know when we should be expecting orientation packets or looking out for a date? I know it's sometime in November?! I'm getting anxious and want to get the ball rolling!

Thanks for the great advice Christina417! I already took drug dosage calculations and pharmacology, so I'll definitley brush up before Jan. Are you loving the program?

Volleygrl, I called them earlier this week before I booked my vacation for November to make sure I wouldn't miss a date. I was told that uniform fitting will be on Dec 6, but they didn't have a set orientation date yet. However, she did tell me that I wouldn't miss anything during my vacation in mid-Nov.

Interesting!! because they gave the fall semester class at least 2 months to start reading assignments and studying. Also you have to get shots. Well have fun on your vaca you will need it before we start:)) maybe orientation will be beginning of November

Hi, does anyone know the schedule for Spring 2014? I want to know if I can work part-time or quit my job.

We don't know the schedule till orientation or until we can register for classes.

To give you an idea, they have the Spring 2013 schedule on the nursing page.
