I NEED something to wear.

Nurses Men

Published

I know that someone out there has the secret; where do they keep all the decent men's scrubs? Just because I haven't seen any guys wearing something I actually like doesn't mean they aren't out there, does it? Right now I'm in solids because it's the only I can wear and keep self respect. (one of my friends who's been a nurse for 25 years either looks like Barney or a model for really bad wallpaper, and I just can't bring myself to do it.)

So where do I buy decent guys scrubs? I want something stylish, something cool. I DO NOT want the following;

sport team prints/logos.

NASCAR scrubs (those had to be designed by a bitter wife)

wallpapery prints of basketballs or motorcycles

more dang solids.

Any suggestions?

So no solids or prints?

What did you have in mind?

A lot of guys like either the Landau for Men collection, or Aviator Scrubs.

I either wear the hospital blues (comfy and free) or IguanaMed.

Solids are OK, I just keep waiting for something better. The women I work with sometimes wear amazing things, really pretty fabric with embroidery or silky looking material. I see those and want the men version of it - that is to say still masculine, but creative and individual.

OK, I know this is not terribly important in the nursing world, and maybe guy nurses are supposed to assert thier masculinity by not caring what they wear. But I'm really bored with the scrubs that are available, and I'm looking for something better.

I complimented a female co-worker the other day on her blouse. Her response was "you guys don't have anything good to wear". All I could say was "I know".

Most men I know and work with would not be interested in creating a market for silky embroidered scrubs for men. That's probably why they don't exist.

What about picking up some paramedic-type pants to wear with a scrub top, or wearing a polo-type shirt instead of a scrub shirt?

Personally I am more concerned with breathability, pockets, washability, and $$.

The SCRUBS line may have some things. They are under a new catalog name and I can't think of the name of it right now. It is fromm CA and the acronym is Simply Comfortable Really Unique Basic Scrubs. Otherwise I was thinking khakis and colored polo shirts.

Maybe because I'm new at this, I haven't tired of basic solids yet... I've discovered the joy of Aviator scrubs recently and love them (though the material doesn't breathe quite as well as my White Swans or Cherokees... it is much more durable though). And with the Aviators, I finally have more pockets than I know what to do with, and (if ordered correctly) a zipper fly, another great time saver for us men. I recently got teal and purple... the latter which actually is one of those colors that just looks good on me (and no, I don't look like Barney). You could get away with almost any colored top if you have something like black scrub pants on the bottom.

I haven't yet come up with a print design that quite does it for me, though I suppose it's possible. I did succumb and get a couple of Boston Red Sox scrubs, though they are understated... just the red Bosox "B" across from the breast pocket and one on the pants on navy-colored scrubs.

I got a couple of patterns for scrubs. Went to JoAnns fabrics and my sister made me some scrubs. I had JD tractors, some deer, fire department stuff.....the possibilities are endless.

Have you tried the Gray's Anatomy line of men's scrubs? They are solid but they are made of a nice silky material that you might like. They are a little shinier and sleek looking than Landau.
