  1. As far as the hair... I keep it buzzed anyway... As for the Peds, I work in Family practice where we have Peds And FP Docs here. The parents don't treat me any different than the female nurses. In fact I think some of the kids remember me easier, as I'm more distinguisable(?) from the many females they see.
  2. I believe they told us that in school also. I've been a nurse since '97, only worn socks the whole time, ankle length at that. I work 12 hr shifts 48-60 hrs a week. But I'm only 38 and have no leg or foot problems (so far). If it's only a recomendation and not a requirement, see how it goes. If you feel you need the support then go get some and have no second thoughts about it.
  3. Sentara Hospital is probably the biggest health care employer in the region. The entire area "Hampton Roads" ... Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Sulfolk. Are all within an easy commute. I live in Chesapeake. It takes me about 20-45 min to get to work in Virginia Beach. Depending on which clinic I'm working in. Here are a couple sites to check. Chesapeake Regional Health center (hospital) http://www.chesapeakeregional.com/opportunities/index.html, Sentara (Multiple hospitals in the area) http://www.sentara.com/Sentara/Employment/Search/
  4. Check out, http://www.cheap-scrubs.com/html/med.html Look at the "6 pocket" sets.
  5. "-You feel like you're either married to, or being a daddy to everyone else in your unit...." Sorry if I'm coming in late one this one but, Thats the truth!!!

Crocs (cheapo imitations). I posted a note about them in the General forum under shoes.
  7. I work 12 hour shifts, wearing NB sneakers, by the end of the day you can smell my stinky feet at 10 paces. Corcs were suggested to me, but before a poped $30 for a pair of "styrofoam" shoes, I bought an $8 pair at Target to try. I LOVE THEM !!!! I gotta say. If the $8 cheapos are anything like the "real" crocs. (which from checking out the ones that others have, they are) It's like wearing slippers all day! Now granted, I don't have any foot issues (yet). But I'm on my feet 60 hours a week w/o complaints. When these wear out I'll, go for a pair w/o the holes in the top (but look for the "vents" on the sides) I think the ones with the holes on the top don't look as professional. But I'm told I can find them for arount $10 inf some of the local uniform shops.
  8. It was just a joke.... But being the only guy where I work, and being more "computer savy" than most people I work with... they all come to me with their computer problems. And it has been suggested on numerous occasions, "Why don't you work in IT?". But I realy don't know as much as they think I do... just more than them.
  9. I work 5, 12's a week and have wondered if going into IT would be worth considering ! LOL
  10. It's clear enough, I'm not gonna leave it to chance.
  11. i looked it up, (duh, i probably should've just done that first) it's virginia code 63.2-1509 for anyone else whos interested. but apparently its a federal thing & all 50 states follow the same code, the # just varies per state. state statutes series: mandatory reporters of child abuse and neglect " duty to report all states, the district of columbia, the commonwealth of puerto rico, and the u.s. territories of american samoa, guam, the northern mariana islands, and the virgin islands have statutes identifying mandatory reporters of child maltreatment. a mandatory reporter is a person who is required by law to make a report of child maltreatment under specific circumstances. approximately 48 states, the district of columbia, puerto rico, and the territories have designated individuals, typically by professional group, who are mandated by law to report child maltreatment.[color=#660066]1 individuals typically designated as mandatory reporters have frequent contact with children. such individuals may include: social workers school personnel health care workers mental health professionals childcare providers medical examiners or coroners law enforcement officers "
  12. The brother is 13, The sister is 10
  13. Ok, I've already called my wife & told her about your unanimous response. She's calling today. (I'm at work) Like I said, we've tried to reason with them. Even if it isn't a "nurse/ client" relationship... I'll still tell them it is manditory. Thanks for your support !
  14. We are going to report it. I was just kinda hoping ya'll told me I am required by law so I had a "reason" to throw in their face when they blew up at us... " I had to by law".
  15. Hi all... I know as a health care profesional that I'm requirered by law to report suspected abuse. But my question is, what if the situation is regarding a friends family? Am I still required by law if its not in a "clinical" setting & its a personal aquainance? I know reporting it is the right thing to do... but then you get into long lasting legal implications, and you hate to induce that on friends. The situation is... a half brother Inappropriately toching his sister. My wife & I have tried to encourage them to seek help for the sisters sake. but they seem almost in denial. We've even tried to explain to them that that just perpetuates the problem. That it allows the "perpitrator" to "get away with it" & think they can do it again. And worsens the "victims" emotional hurt by not supporting her. So if we cann't encourage them to seek help, Am I required to report it or jepordize my license? If we wre to report it, it would be clear we did it. That would obviously more than likely destroy the friendship. So thats the Dilemma
