  1. The Looks of A Future Nurse!

As far as the hair... I keep it buzzed anyway... As for the Peds, I work in Family practice where we have Peds And FP Docs here. The parents don't treat me any different than the female nurses. In fact I think some of the kids remember me easier, as ...
  2. So uhh...stockings?

I believe they told us that in school also. I've been a nurse since '97, only worn socks the whole time, ankle length at that. I work 12 hr shifts 48-60 hrs a week. But I'm only 38 and have no leg or foot problems (so far). If it's only a recomenda...
  3. Chesapeake Area Hospitals

Sentara Hospital is probably the biggest health care employer in the region. The entire area "Hampton Roads" ... Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Sulfolk. Are all within an easy commute. I live in Chesapeake. It takes me ab...

  7. crocs aint working for me!

I work 12 hour shifts, wearing NB sneakers, by the end of the day you can smell my stinky feet at 10 paces. Corcs were suggested to me, but before a poped $30 for a pair of "styrofoam" shoes, I bought an $8 pair at Target to try. I LOVE THEM !!!! I g...
  8. Question about nursing and 12 hours shifts.

It was just a joke.... But being the only guy where I work, and being more "computer savy" than most people I work with... they all come to me with their computer problems. And it has been suggested on numerous occasions, "Why don't you work in IT?"...
  9. Question about nursing and 12 hours shifts.

I work 5, 12's a week and have wondered if going into IT would be worth considering ! LOL
  10. Reporting abuse

Hi all... I know as a health care profesional that I'm requirered by law to report suspected abuse. But my question is, what if the situation is regarding a friends family? Am I still required by law if its not in a "clinical" setting & its a per...

i looked it up, (duh, i probably should've just done that first) it's virginia code 63.2-1509 for anyone else whos interested. but apparently its a federal thing & all 50 states follow the same code, the # just varies per state. state statutes se...

  14. Reporting abuse

Ok, I've already called my wife & told her about your unanimous response. She's calling today. (I'm at work) Like I said, we've tried to reason with them. Even if it isn't a "nurse/ client" relationship... I'll still tell them it is manditory. T...
  15. Reporting abuse

We are going to report it. I was just kinda hoping ya'll told me I am required by law so I had a "reason" to throw in their face when they blew up at us... " I had to by law".
  16. Discrimination...You think??!!?!

I would, calmly, clarify with the DON what that meant. Explain that it has been eating at you & your not sure how to take it. Maybe the other hall requested you (or one of the males) "how come that hall gets 2 guys?". Maybe they felt they should...
  17. So..You're going to be a MALE nurse?

Yeah, auto sales.... thats a manly job. I'm picturing sleazy crooks in plaid sport coats.
  18. Threatening clinical instructor

Some instructors are tough... every school has 'em. Maybe they feel its their duty to weed out the weak ones who can't hack it. Or toughen you up because some of the docs your gonna work w/ in your career are just as bad or worse. My advice... IMO.....
  19. The only difference I can remember is that my instructors asked the pt's I'd be assigned to if they minded a male. Most didn't. Most of the OB docs were male anyway.
  20. Do i not have what it takes?

You've only been working for 3 months? If so, give it time. I have no prob. w/ "code brown"... it's vomit that makes me hurl also. But over the years, you get used to it. I used to be on a Vol. FD/ Ambulance... and I was known as the puker. But ther...

Has it been that long since Al Gore invented the Internet?? LOL
  22. "Men should be EMT's or Doctors!"

I'm glad you were able to discuss it with the patient and maybe give her a little insight. I personaly wouldn't have the heart to write up a 90 year old lady thought. She was raised in a different time, were gender roles were "strict". I get yelle...
  23. Excelsior College or College Network

I looked into the Collage Network 4 years ago, decided to sign up 3 years ago. 4 years ago... lets see... before I had Cable/DSL internet, I was on that old slow dial-up Internet where if you wanted to do any in depth research, you had to take the ...
