I have to say, as another student, this drives me insane. Most of us put our recorders/phones on a table in front of where professor lectures. When one persons phone starts vibrating, it rattles on the table and messes up everyone's recordings. Except my friend, she keeps her at her desk, in the third row (so about 20 feet from professor, if not more) and it's clear as a bell, with no rattles.
Lol yep. Even if your not recording having the whole table rattle is annoying/distracting
I turn off vibration and text/mail notifications when I record. Nothing is that urgent during class. The app Voice Record Pro (VRP 7) free on iOS will record even if screen is in power save mode. I've recorded 90 minutes continuous and can back up to a cloud or google drive.
Check school policy on recording lectures. Many require instructor permission.
I never used by phone to record, so I'm not sure. I like my recorder, I can send you a recording of one of my lectures to let you listen to the quality. Just give me your email. One bit of advice is keep a spare set of batteries because I dont keep track when they are low and in the middle of lecture it when completely dead. Luckily my study partner had a recorder too lol
If you use a laptop or tablet in the class I would use the voice recorder on that, I have done it for several classes and never had an issue, I have also used my cell phone but make sure your phone is on silent not vibrate or you will hear it every time you get a notification, other than that I never had an issue with using my cell phone. Regardless of what you are using to record, you will want to make sure you can upload to a computer (which makes it so much more convenient and you will actually use it that way) it is also helpful to try and make several recordings throughout the class so if you are having trouble with one part you can just go back to that section of the lecture instead of trying to find it (which can be a pain). I usually tried to break mine up every 10-15 min or whenever he would switch major topics.
