I m in big trouble! I think I failed my drug screen

Here's the scoop. I was told by another nurse that the facility I work in (I work agency) didn't do pre employent Urinalysis drug screens. Now, I m an occasional pot smoker(never before work. usually about 3x a month), I don't drink, I don't do any hard core drugs. SO anyway, to my surprise, when I went to the physical on Monday... they drew labs, xrays and did a Urinalysis. In about 2 hours I have to go in and get the update of the physical and test results... Guess what? I know they're gonna find thc in my urine. Now, I m not only looking at definitely not getting this job but I might even be turned in to the state boards. I m screwed. I didn't sleep at all last night. My wife's panicked and so am I. There's nothing I can do now. I don't consider myself an addict in any way shape of form. some people drink a couple beers, some do a couple puffs once in a while. Had I been smarter about it, i would have abstained from it.... but being gullible and stupid.. I didn't. God help me!I smoked the day before the test. lesson learned.

i am sorry to join this late, but for all the people who feel sorry for the pot smoker, would anyone feel sorry for me if i snorted coke 3x a week? if everyone can have compassion for him and say oh, no big deal, i do it myself, what about me? i know no one would feel sorry for me and just bash me, including pot smokers, the biggest hypocrites.

To the OP: I personally don't have a problem with recreational pot smokers who nurse. After all nicotine kills millions of people every year, alcohol kills people yet the government make money off it. Years ago I used to smoke the stuff until I started getting paranoid and freaking out.

BUT the rules say you can't smoke pot and work as a nurse (not sure about the policy in my country). You may not agree with the rules but you chose to do nursing and if you want a career in the field you have to obey them or live in fear of being caught one day.

i am sorry to join this late, but for all the people who feel sorry for the pot smoker, would anyone feel sorry for me if i snorted coke 3x a week? if everyone can have compassion for him and say oh, no big deal, i do it myself, what about me? i know no one would feel sorry for me and just bash me, including pot smokers, the biggest hypocrites.

since when is (occasional) pot smoking comparable to cocaine snorting?

because both are illegal drugs{duh} and no, actually i am not a cocaine addict. for one when i smoked pot that one time it made my heart race and i became so paranoid tried to jump out of a window. point is if we legalize pot, why not the others? besides coke does have some useful uses too.remember, people lose inhibitions with pot and u bet we will see a rise in stds ,crime, child abuse. And from some one whose father used pot a lot, {and got dx with schizophrenia b/c someone mixed lsd and pcp in his pot} i think i know damm well what i am talking about when i say child abuse/neglect. how do u know if its pure?

if they didnt tell you they were doing a drug test, and the urine wasnt obtained under proper conditions....but really as a nurse you werent aware that this could happen at any time????

frankly i dont think they should be done without cause, but the rules is the rules!

I agree...especially since you won't find a facility or agency on the planet that doesn't do drug testing...and that this is pounded into our heads in nursing school.

All the people?? I don't recall anyone saying they felt sorry for the OP.

BTW Coke is a far more dangerous drug then pot. Regardless I didn't see a lot of "I feel sorry for you"

I don't believe this at all. I used to smoke a lot of pot back in the day when I was a teen, I didn't loose my inhibitions.Shoot I was to lazy to have sex. Drinking? now that is a whole other story. I have known a lot of pot smokers and none of them even had the energy to abuse children. I think I know what I am talking about, IN MY CASE that is, since your experience isn't the same as everyone elses. I had a drug addicted abusive mother who was also a drunk. She was an abuser as well, not discipline but hard core abuse as in she hung me from a bunk bed once trying to kill me. The only times she did chill the heck out was when she would smoke pot. Alcohol causes far more incidence of crime, "loss of inhibitions", child abuse and so on then pot ever will.

I wasn't even aware that schizophrenia could stem from drugs. Guess they left that out of my 4 psychology classes. Weird. I will have to research that one.

People can get in trouble when they come across pot that is laced with other drugs and that can be a big problem. I would say that is why this person saw such scary things with it and I am so sorry to hear that. It must have been horrible.

I have had pot laced with coke before, thankfully it didn't have any added effect on me. I was 15. But I think everyone in here that is talking about pot, is talking about just that, pot.

Anytime you engage in any sort of "risky" behavior you are taking a chance, whether it be having your drink laced at a club, pot mixed with other drugs, a bad hit of acid and so on. These are not the norms but they are risks you have to be aware of.

Just teasing. Primos are generally harmless. Generally.

However, some people lace pot with embalming fluid or pcp. Those cause BIG problems.

I almost put primos but didn't think it would look good if I knew all these street names LOL. I was young and dumb and thought it was cool to date a drug dealing gang member. I even thought it was a smarter idea to try and get pregnant and have a baby with one :stone
