I am in my first semester of nursing school. I waited 2 years after finishing my prereqs and I was nervous at first, but I love it! The classmates are wonderful, the teachers are so supportive, and I still have plenty of time to spend with my family and still maintain the grade I want. The school is not easy, but is managable. I just wanted to say something positive because I know that it is much easier to be inspired to write about the negative then the positive. Good luck to everyone!!

As exhausted as I am from our insane clinical hours, I still get up every day feeling excited about going in. One of my classmates saved a life today. How freakin' cool is that?

Only 10 more clinical days 'til graduation!!!

Um, no. I don't love nursing school like I did back in Fundamentals.

I have sobered up. Things have gotten increasingly more stressful and I am tired of school politics. I do love what I am learning and I enjoy interacting with my classmates and patients. But I am tired and ready to graduate. 8 mos and I will be DONE! ;)

:yeahthat:

I have just completed my second quarter in the RN program. I love it:1luvu: . I am now on break and have boat load of chapters to read and two research summaries due when I return. I have been searching the web and cannot find any free research articles. I have found great abstracts, but everyone wants $50 to 70 dollars:banghead: . Does any one know of free sites? I am so excited about next quarter it's OB. I am also a bit nervous. I hope I get in on a C-section. Anyone have any advice or OB stories?

LOL Well heck good luck to you all.. My days in school were awesome.. Mind you that was when you trained on the job in a hospital.. I still say it was a good learning experience. Stick to ya dreams folks :)

I have a love/hate relationship with it. Im in my 3rd semester and I still love going to clinical no matter how early. I love all my amazing clinical instructors and teachers. I LOVE interacting with the patients and learning new things. I love interesting lectures. I love 99% of my classmates and will miss them dearly when I am done.

I hate the repetitive paperwork I have to do, boring lectures, insane clinical instructors ( thankfully have only had 1), disorganized lectures, and test questions that make zero sense/poorly written/more than 1 correct answer, etc.

Thank you for the link Danish. I will check it out. ;)

Sabby NC, I think that that is the best way to go. I wish I had that opportunity. I live in a rural area and the nearest teaching hospital is about a 90 min drive. I am attending a small community college. I am also a mother of three. I am able to send my children to school and meet them at the end of our road when school is out. I live so far out in BFE that the bus does not even come to my house. I was a STNA at a nursing home for 2 yrs while waiting to get into program. I wanted to make sure that I really wanted to be a nurse. I think it was the best I could have done. I am interested in Hospice. I want to start out at a hospital to get experience first.

add me also...i was stopped schooling from business administration..its kind a too far from what i have started and that is why i got nervous and wondered if i can hold on nursing... when i decided to go back school and choosed nursing i never had any regrets of choosing it.. i realized how interesting the subjects i took, the clinical instructors who are verry discilpinarian and yet supportive, the fun we have have with my classmates who really took importance in our studies..its all and all fun learning.. im in my third year level now and im so excited in our up coming capping and pinning... what a great experience working in hospitals together with professional nurses taking care and leading in the hospital...good luck to everyoine and have a great time in school for us all!!!

I am a second semester student and I love nursing school!!!

I am looking forward for psychiatric nursing and neuro next semester.

Ill be quite blunt about this. I worked 2.5 years to get my AS and then accepted to a nursing program itself. Now that I am my 3rd term in I can say that I really do love this field. I always knew I would.

Today in fact, I pulled my new clinical instructor aside and flat out told her, "I just want you to know that to me, here in the hospital, is disney world to me." Im the kinda person that never has a "bad" day or a "bad" patient. Any patient that at the end of my shift is alive and well is a good patient ya know? Yes ive had some "difficult" patients, (i.e. rude family, demanding, ect) but I just smile and do my best to help them have a better day. I find that if you love what you do then you are getting paid to have fun ;) I love having "stress" as most would call it. To me its more of an invigorating thing then a negative one. Deadlines, meds, dx, full patient care. I love it all.

Love what you do, do what you love, its the best way to live!

And yes, Im guilty of having no problem eating my lunch while i chart after just cleaning up Mr. John Does rectal bleed. Us nurses (and soon to be) are an odd lot!

P.s. yes I know its a wall of text. I just wish more nurses had better attitudes. Im not talking about the burned out ones, I mean the ones that are just not very nice people to begin with  From my experience as an EMT and now on the floor 18 hours a week in clinical, you can REALLY spot the ones who are doing this for the $$$ from the ones that are doing this because they generally want to server the public.

I will be in the program this september and I am so exited to be in the program and love it that I am going to be apart of such a meaningful carrer. Good Luck to everyone!

hi snsscc

you have the right attitude etc and i know jolly well you will succeed in your dreams.

hospice is an awesome field to work in and i am very blessed to work in an organization that is caring about the employees etc.

you are right in starting out in a hospital first, gain your experience and find the areas that are your passion.

i do pray that hospice is the area you wish to work in.

my hubby wants to go into hospice after he has finished his rn program. he has learnt a good deal from me but he sees how contented i leave and come home from work. heck i would drag myself to work with a broken leg i love it that much! lol

do let us know how your training continues as i would be very interested.

best of all good things your way.

oh and i have to admire you for going to school etc while you're raising three children. i admire your grit and determination. :)
