I Love being a Nurse!!! Just wanted to share that!
Yes I have had my share of bad days and complaints but when it comes down to it, I love nursing.
I have only been nursing for 3 years but I have continued to learn something new on every single shift and there is an infinite amount of knowledge out there for me to continue to learn!
With so many different paths to take in the nursing profession I know that I can never get bored.
What other career would give me the opportunity to truly help others at some of the the most difficult times in their lives. And the great human strength I have witnessed has allowed me to grow as a person.
I am guilty of focusing on the negative at times but I just wanted to share with everyone right now that I really truly love being a nurse and am extremely grateful that I have been given this opportunity in life.
Thanks for the post. I love nursing, too! Some days are bad, but for the most part they are good! Granted, I'm only working 2 days/week now and I'm a full time student in an LPN/BSN bridge program. I get more burned out by school than work.
I'm on call this week and just came home from seeing a pt. She's not doing well and I got to do lots of teaching. She was o.k. this morning when the nurse saw her, but she's really declined quickly. I hate telling someone their loved one has begun the dying process, but I do love being there for this family during their darkest hours and teaching. Hopefully, some of my teaching was retained.
Glad to see there are other happy nurses here!:heartbeat
Love it too. My usual response when pts ask if I like being a nurse is: "I can't believe they actually pay me to do this."
To all, remember that one of the prime rationales for this site is to allow nurses to vent about their frustrations to the only folks who understand. But it's still nice to read something positive.
thanks, I love my job too
Of course there are awful days, but still will take being a nurse and making a difference in someone's life over anything else. People who hate their job have not found the right environment to work in. Your co-workers can really bring you down and instigate a debbie downer
THANK YOU!!!! This post was so great and inspiring to someone like me who will start prereqs in the Spring to go for a second degree BSN. There is alot of negativity on this board but I get it, people need a place to vent and feel like that are not alone. Also, I have seen boards for doctors, teachers, lawyers and its the same deal. It just seems so overly negative because its alot of posts by hundreds of thousands in one place.
I am glad you love you job, that is makes me smile. That is all I have ever wanted to say, that I love my job and I am confident that nursing will get me there. Thanks for the positivity!
YES! YES!! YES!!! Nursing is wonderful... I am a new RN since May and started working in Sept and have been on my own for three weeks now. I love it. It is stressful, scary, intimidating, nerve wrecking, overwhelming, and exhausting. I have learned to overcome so many obstacles already and am very excited about my future!
Thank you! I am 35 and entering my clinicals in March. I'm quitting my "career" for the last 16 years and moving in with friends in order to do so. After seeing all of the negative writings here I was beginning to wonder if I should rethink this. I've wanted to be a nurse since I was a little girl...so thank you!!!

Yes Co-workers with a negative attitude can definitely bring you down. I have been brought down by co-workers in the past but I have come up with a new philosophy for myself; I have decided to really pay attention and notice when I hear negativity and recognize it for what it is, then do my absolute best not to let it effect me. I love my job and I shouldn't let others make the decision to change that.
Feeling negative does not help anything including whatever it is you are feeling negative about. Work is a much better place when you surround yourself with positivity.
