I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.

Published

I feel like burning most the LVN review books I bought as they did me no good what-so-ever on the NCLEX. The questions I got came out of left field. Stuff that wasn't taught in school like post mordum care for jewish men and questions about the Buhdist faith. I couldn't believe the questions I got. It felt like I guessed at half the questions. What a terrible feeling I have now. I have went threw the ENTIRE Saunders LNV review book and cd TWICE, that's 6,000 questions, as well as the kaplan review book, "lvn made easy", and the mosby cd. Total review questions and rationales done exceeded 8,000. Yet it didn't help me at all. Yes I read the rationales for ALL the questions/ answers. The NCSBN.ORG review was the only thing that helped me as the questions were similar to the NCLEX.

The VAST majority of question were priority questions. I had learned all the tricks to answer these in the Kaplan book. Only one big problem....the priority questions in kaplan are a complete joke (very easy) compared to the actual NCLEX ones which were brutal.

My computer shut off at 85 and I am positive I got the 85th question wrong because I looked it up when I got home. I hear if the computer stops at 85 and you miss the last question ...you most likely failed if you weren't doing so hot. I wanted to throw up when I left the testing center.

So hear I sit and have to wait 3 weeks to get result in CA. I will start checking the LVN board website next week, but I have a bad feeling my name won't be up there and I will have to take the NCLEX again.

OMG I PASSSSSSEDD!!!

I took the test on Feb. 4th with 85 questions in 2 hrs. I have been dreading ever since cuz i seriously thought i failed. I knew for a fact there were easy questions that i had gotten wrong. But after 3 weeks and 4 days, i finally found out that i passed.

I dunno if this works for everyone, but this is what i did.

I only studied for about 3 weeks. I didn't study the content because i read that its best to do questions and read the rationale. I ordered the kaplan qbank 1000 questions and did about 50-100 questions a day. I also bought the kaplan strategies book, i dunno if it helped me, but it helped other people. I also did some questions from the lippincott cd but mostly kaplan. I made sure to know my lab values and thats pretty much it.

OMG i can't stop crying. I'm soOooOoOo incredibly happy!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WHO HAVENT RECEIVED THEIR RESULTS YET OR WHO IS STILL GONNA TAKE IT. HAVE FAITH AND CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF. AND PRAY, I DID A LOT OF THAT. HEHE. GOD IS TRULY GREAT. HE WILL GET YOU THROUGH ANYTHING!!

I also did about 50-100 kaplan questions a day but I'd get a lot of repetitive questions...I took mine on the 15th of feb and still waiting...I'm in California...I hope I get good news like you! I also stopped at 85 questions and also finished in about 2 hours...Thanks for giving me hope! And God is great...I'm sure he hears me each night...once again...CONGRATULATIONS!!!:nurse::yeah::lol2:

I took my board two days ago. I came out from the testing center saying "What was that! I wasn't expecting it to be that hard!!!!" It started easy and suddenly gotten so hard!!!!!!!! I don't know if that's normal but I got like 3 or 4 pharmacology and 5 or 6 diabetes question and one or two questions on other topics and so many Prioritize and rooming in and delagating questions.... My last question was select all that applies and it was about a medication that I never heard or seen before. After that the computer shut down it stopped on 85. Right now guy's I seriously don't know if I passed/failed.I'm believing myself that I did pass because GOD was with me at all times!!!!!!!! I will let you guys know once I get my result.

Don't worry you're not the only one who feels that way. I'm still waiting for my results too. Hang in there buddy. Have faith.

Thanks Alphadog. Wishing all of us pass!!! Which we will guys!!!!!!!

I used the Saunders Comprehensive CD-ROM, Kaplan Online Q-bank, a little bit of Mosby's CD-ROM, and a little bit of Lippincott's CD-ROM. I also signed up for a short review class that helped review body systems. When you schedule to take your NCLEX, be sure to practice at least 100-200 questions a day and always review the rationales on the questions you got wrong. I used the study mode on the Saunder's CD and went through all body systems including mental health, maternity, pediatrics, and pharmacology. Also, you should know your common lab values. I'm sure you know that the NCLEX now has alternate format questions like Select All That Apply...Oh, I've also heard that the format will change starting April 2008 but I don't know what those changes are. Remember your ABC's and Maslow's Hiercarchy of Needs and Nursing Process to help you answer questions. GOOD LUCK with school!!!!!! GOOD LUCK on the NCLEX!!!! Study hard and if you need anything don't hestitate to post!!! We're here for ya!!!! :nurse:
AWWW. thank you .... and yea i heard the same thing about the format changing in april, is there a wedsite that I can find that out?
