I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I feel like burning most the LVN review books I bought as they did me no good what-so-ever on the NCLEX. The questions I got came out of left field. Stuff that wasn't taught in school like post mordum care for jewish men and questions about the Buhdist faith. I couldn't believe the questions I got. It felt like I guessed at half the questions. What a terrible feeling I have now. I have went threw the ENTIRE Saunders LNV review book and cd TWICE, that's 6,000 questions, as well as the kaplan review book, "lvn made easy", and the mosby cd. Total review questions and rationales done exceeded 8,000. Yet it didn't help me at all. Yes I read the rationales for ALL the questions/ answers. The NCSBN.ORG review was the only thing that helped me as the questions were similar to the NCLEX.

The VAST majority of question were priority questions. I had learned all the tricks to answer these in the Kaplan book. Only one big problem....the priority questions in kaplan are a complete joke (very easy) compared to the actual NCLEX ones which were brutal.

My computer shut off at 85 and I am positive I got the 85th question wrong because I looked it up when I got home. I hear if the computer stops at 85 and you miss the last question ...you most likely failed if you weren't doing so hot. I wanted to throw up when I left the testing center.

So hear I sit and have to wait 3 weeks to get result in CA. I will start checking the LVN board website next week, but I have a bad feeling my name won't be up there and I will have to take the NCLEX again.

I'm wondering; maybe if everyone who takes the Nclex in California writes a letter to the board about our rediculous and stressful waiting period, it might start having an effect someday? Just bombard them with an avalanche of mail...

Hmm , so it was 120 days after I graduated before I took the nclex....so I have a 44.6% cance of passing. Great , that is EXACTLY what i needed to hear as I am stressed to the max already, thanks.

You had provided partial information and not quite accurate information. I am filling in the gaps. And those numbers are not really your chances of passing. Those percentages are passing rates. And they are OVERALL rates that include US educated candidates and foreign educated candidates. I would offer you the link to read the study yourself, but I am afraid it will just further upset you. If you are interested, I can give it to you after you pass. For now, take a deep breath and try to calm down. I wish you the best of luck with your results.

If taken with 26 days of graduation, it is 84.6%. If taken 27-39 days it is 80.5 days. If taken 40-62 days, it is 72.4 days. If taken 63-1565 days (4 years) it is 44.6%.
I graduated from a California school, so there was no way I'd be able to take the exam within 26 days of graduating.

I completed school on October 14, but did not receive my eligibility papers from the state of California until November 23. I then had to visit the Pearson Vue website to pay the funds required to take the NCLEX exam. After I received my Authorization to Test, I was barely able to schedule an appointment to take the test. I think that those of us who are dealing with the state of California are at a great disadvantage due to all of the senseless waiting.

At my graduating LVN school it was physically impossible to take the NCLEX before 3 months after graduating for the following reasons:

1. The school was closed for 30 days AFTER we graduated.

2. We HAD to take, and pass 10 or 11 exit exams before our application would be sent in by the school. (this took nearly a month to get done , as most of us students are working full time now.

3. OK, now it has been 2 months since I graduated and finsihed up the exit exams being the first student to do so. My application is sent in and I don't hear from the LVN board for 5 weeks.

4. By the time I hear from the LVN board it is now nearly 3 and a half months since the time I graduated. I sceduale my exam two weeks in the future giving myself 4 total months of study time after graduation.

Most of my classmates are waiting 6 - 8 months after graduating to take the exam. The eariliest POSSIBLE time I could of taken it was 3.5 months after graduating.

Our exams in school they say are similar to the NCLEX. We argue just about every answer becuase they are so similar, but now I am seeing why they do that.

Schools do not have access to old NCLEX exams. The exams are comprised from a pool of thousands of questions.

Oh, ok. Well I was just wondering.

I had the impression once, long ago that they did, but I guess I was wrong.

Nah, as much as the schools would like to, they can't look at them. Now, the boards of nursing can look at real exams twice a year. But, as you know, the maximum number of questions they'll be seeing is 265 for the RN exam and 205 for the PN exam.

Good grief...it continues to just STUN me that CA of all states is so backwards when it comes to nurse licensure exams!!!! I never really thought about it before, but since I was able to take the NCLEX-PN within two weeks of graduation, PLUS get my unofficial results online from my home state (which is CO) within 48 hours I would think CA would have it more together. It's just absurd.

Hang in there, Big...:kiss
