I just saw the third teen today for a temp check.

Sent by the teacher. :banghead:

Because our AC is kicking on high and these are teeny tiny girls wearing skimpy dresses saying they're cold.

NO DUH!!!! Put come clothes on and turn the air down a bit, and they probably won't be so hot. To the teacher who is forever saying "I'm burning up"- just because you're hot all of the time doesn't mean the little girls who are cold are febrile. It doesn't help that you're menopausal!!!!!!! It's called HOT FLASHES! :angryfire

I will be more than happy to check their temp and send them back to class, but think it through.

Ugh, glad it is not just me dealing with this!

A teacher did send a student up to me a few hours ago because her shorts were too short. I'm talking 5th grade girl too !

And the nurse's office is responsible for disciplining students for being out of dress code????????Shouldn't she have been sent to an administrator? Oh no, because you have a clothing line in your closet, right?????

Sorry, is my pesimism shining through? It's not my fault - it's summer fever!

Yup, I was thinking the same thing !!!! I did not even call the parent I was like this is not part of my job description. The student called the parent, I just let her use my phone.

That was nothing like yesterday... when a little boy came to the HR wanting me to warm up his soup ! I was like oh no, go ask the front office. :uhoh3:

oh gosh..I have had teachers send them in for me to zip or button their pants, to wash off milk from their clothes, to tighten the waist bands inside the jeans , repair flipflops.... sometimes I wonder about these big people around here.....

Oh good, it's not just me! Either that or we work at the same school! :) The best one so far this year was "my head hurts because my braids are too tight"...what nursing dx do I give that?? :lol2:

I had a student with an asthma attack (no inhaler) whose peak flow was in the red zone and I had to call the paramedics. A teacher came in (practically pushing a paramedic out of the way) so that I could get a tiny, very tiny piece of gum out of a student's hair. I took a kleenex and grabbed (it was barely sitting on her hair), threw it in the trash and said "there you go - I think she can go back to class now!"

Let's see - respiratory distress or gum in hair??? Which is more important? Hmmm....let me think.........Hmmmmm, that's a hard one......well, you do need a nursing license to touch gum so I better take he to the nurse immediately!

OMG I would have thrown her out of my clinic so fast! Ridiculous!

Good grief! We need to write a book! I really do believe that some of them do not know what an emergency really is. I have e-mailed and made announcements at times when I am screening and don't want to be interrupted unless it is an emerg. and still they will send me silly things...I send them right back!

I got one ( I think I already shared this one though), anyway:

Last week had a student come to the health room for me to warm up their can of soup. My mouth drop. Bad enough they think the HR is a walmart let alone kitchen !

I also had a teacher come in because she suspected that her pk student had been strangled by her mom due to red marks on around her neck, turned out to be make up !!! I wiped it off with an alcohol swap.

We need to write a book " Being sent to the HR ( health room) For the Darnest things" Written by AN.
