I am in A&P II this semester and I am really struggling. I have taken two tests and I made a 71 on each. The last day to drop is June 28. That would be good if I had another test to add to it, but my teacher is going to be on vacation so another test will not be taken after that date. I have tried the tips on here about studying two hours, re-writing notes, and studying from quizlet, etc. but my teachers tests are so hard. I went in this morning thinking i knew this and I would make a great grade. Then when I got the test I was totally bummed. If I drop, I will have to wait a whole other year to apply for my college's nursing program since they only start in the fall, now fall 2014 hopeful. Any advice?

Sounds like you'll probably get a C. Is that good enough to be admitted into your nursing program this fall?
Meet with your teacher to get his/her recommendations on your situation. If the teacher thinks you should continue then get advice on how to do better.
Summer classes are tough because the pace is twice as fast.

I had a year delay because of a scheduling conflict. If you end up pushing back another year, take full advantage of that time to save as much money as you can! I wish I had taken on a 3rd job before I got started so that I'd have a little more financial flexibility for emergency situations (like needing a new alternator, a root canal, etc.)

DO NOT DROP!!! THERE'S HOPE FOR YOU...
a C is not that bad or impossible to bring up. now if you had a F or even a D--diff story, but a C is okay and can be brought up! ask your prof if there is anything you can do for extra credit...ask him for his office hrs and show up every chance you have to ask if he can go over some things that may be on the exam. chances are even if you have a C average, you can still get a C+ if he sees you often, notices you are trying your very best, and want this badly. this has happened for me in A&P2 as well....i kept getting C-'s and D's in lecture, but i got A's and B+'s in lab....i would utilize my professor's office hours to discuss what would be on the exam and ask how he would word a question or what type of answer he'd be looking for, or even if i wasn't sure about his lecture on a topic, i would recap what i gathered and ask him to expand on my understanding a little. in the end i got the C+ i needed. I'm not the proudest of that C+ but i am pleased that i did well enough to get into any program. and really, i did my very best. i did my average at the end of the semester, and thought i would receive a C, i earned the extra points because of my relentlessness.:flamesonb
even if you get a C and must take the class again, you will get an A the second time around just b/c of what you've already retained from this semester....GOOD LUCK TO YOU
At my school we are on a different grading scale than most. It is the standard as in grade school. So a 71 is a D and a low one at that. When I woke up this morning I never thought my day would turn out like this.
Thank you all for responding. I wish my dh would get home already so I can cry on his shoulder. :*(

I'm so sorry
What do you think the odds are of you raising your grade to a C by the end of the class? If you're concerned that you could seriously end up with a D or an F, I think I would drop it. People here have gotten into NS with a C in a science course. But even if you didn't, if you're really struggling with the material it may help you to stick it out and then hear it all a second time when you retake it.
I struggled in Microbiology. My teacher's method of testing and I just did not get along. I didn't find the material especially difficult, but her all essay tests with no hint beforehand of what she was looking for and her habit of forgetting to post her powerpoints but still testing over them really got to me (and everyone else - the goghest grade in the class was an 81)
Sometimes there's nothing you can do but tough it out.

I got all Bs in my pre-requisites except for Micro in which I got a C and I still got into a competitive BSN program. Granted, I had to do well in other areas to make up for it and it took me a little longer than I expected (I also didn't apply to many out of area programs since I have a job as an ER Tech that I'd like to keep) but I still did it. How are the rest of your grades? Try talking to your professor to see if a C is possible and if it is I'd say go for it but I would drop if it looks like you are going to get a D or lower. (71% counts as a low D? That is crazy!)
Thanks steph and Bobmo. My grades are great. I got all A's in my other pre-reqs except 1 B in Psychology. I only have one more english, micro, and an elective left to take. I really believe I know my stuff, it is just the tests are hard. Another student is struggling with this same question. She did better than me by 7 points, but it is still only 2 points from a D and she is worried that with a C she won't make it, so that is why I am super stressed. It just sucks, because when I woke up this morning I didn't have too much worry on my mind. I knew I would ace this test and that 71 would be replaced with my final. But now, I just don't see how I can do it with only 3 tests left of the semester. BTW, I have a 100% in lab.
I think I am going to talk to her Wednesday, she teaches at our satellite college on Tues. and Thurs., and see what she says. I know she isn't supposed to hold my hand, but some direction would be helpful, ya know?
Thanks again for listening and giving me advice. It really helps.

I'm not sure how your class works, but often a really high grade in lab can pull you up a letter grade in lecture. I wouldn't give up hope yet.
I agree with KMtoRN, keep that lab grade up and it will help your overall grade a lot.

Well if you're doing that great in lab i see no problem with her raising your final grade in theory. Just make sure you show her you're doing the best you can ask her if there are any other ways you should try studying for the exams. Make her see that you are really trying. I know i was doing all the work for my stats class doing everything assigned to us plus more but my grade didnt move higher than a 52% i dont know what i was doing wrong i did good with the homework but did horrible on the tests. Talked to the professor and explained to him how i was studying and how i bad i needed to pass the class THAT semester. Lo and behold final grades came and i was ecstatic to see that C instead of that F. I wish it was an A but a C isnt that bad. Hope everything works out for the best for you. Just do not give up
