Failed TEAs V Reading Section...AGAIN!
it was by such a small percentage ...again...i just feel so embarassed. how can i fail reading comprehension??? i read all the time ...and i comprehend rather well. im not a dumb person, i got very decent scores on all the other sections---math and science were problem areas but i took the advice of the ati book, took the practice exams and proved that i can learn/re-learn the necessary material to get good grades. however, i just cant seem to pass the reading section, i always seem to run out of time on the actual proctored exam. now i have to wait another semester to gain admission (IFFFF i can pass on my last attempt of the TEAs V) or enroll in another school where i have to take other courses for pre-requisites before i get accepted into the program...they are much more intense then the school i wanted to originally go to... ugh...advice??

Nervous about TEAS and lack of certain knowledge
just purchase the ati book and take both practice exams in the back. they pay for themselves! also purchase the online practice exams. after answering each question, they explain every question weather you answered right or wrong with detailed reason. i've noticed some of the questions from the practice exams are repeated/reworded on the actual exam. the answers are just moved around or they change the question. but there aren't too many surprises if you take all 4 of the practice tests. and another thing i appreciate is that even after you are done with the online practice tests, you get a summary of your results and they tell you specifically which sections you got low pecentages on and the pages in the ati book that you can find that exact information. when it comes to science just brush up on the basics of a&p/bio, chem, theory, earth sci, etc... it sounds like a lot but trust me when i say that if you buy the book from ati, you will be fine!!!

I just don't know what to do
DO NOT DROP!!! THERE'S HOPE FOR YOU... a C is not that bad or impossible to bring up. now if you had a F or even a D--diff story, but a C is okay and can be brought up! ask your prof if there is anything you can do for extra credit...ask him for his office hrs and show up every chance you have to ask if he can go over some things that may be on the exam. chances are even if you have a C average, you can still get a C+ if he sees you often, notices you are trying your very best, and want this badly. this has happened for me in A&P2 as well....i kept getting C-'s and D's in lecture, but i got A's and B+'s in lab....i would utilize my professor's office hours to discuss what would be on the exam and ask how he would word a question or what type of answer he'd be looking for, or even if i wasn't sure about his lecture on a topic, i would recap what i gathered and ask him to expand on my understanding a little. in the end i got the C+ i needed. I'm not the proudest of that C+ but i am pleased that i did well enough to get into any program. and really, i did my very best. i did my average at the end of the semester, and thought i would receive a C, i earned the extra points because of my relentlessness.:flamesonb even if you get a C and must take the class again, you will get an A the second time around just b/c of what you've already retained from this semester....GOOD LUCK TO YOU

I JUST TOOK TEAS V!!!!!!
the exam is not hard in its entirety. do yourself a favor and buy the ATI book from their website, along with the online practice tests. they will pay for themselves! when you take the practices test online and get your scores, they tell you which sections you didn't do well on and where you can locate that exact information in the book.

I JUST TOOK TEAS V!!!!!!
i did! thats the crazy part. i do well when i time myself on the practice exams....i bought the ATI book (which i HIGHLY RECOMMEND) and took both exams in the back. the book is extremely helpful and a lot of the questions (in all sections) i saw on the actual exam. i think if anything they reworded some questions or moved the answers around. and i also bought the practice online exams which also had questions that were repeated/reworded on the exam. the thing is that all of the practices have 42 questions, but on the actual test you have 48 questions in 58 minutes.......the killer is reading the very long passages in the beginning---the first time around i found myself bored and distracted and having to re-read them, wasting precious time.. so this time around i worked backwards, did all the short reading questions and ultimately i ran out of time when i went back to answer the long ones i skipped. (altogether about 8-10 of them) it seems like the extra questions they add on the actual test are questions that stem from these longer passages. so if you are like me, and read at a slower pace---save those for last! move on to something you can quickly find the answer to because the rest of them are pretty obvious.

I JUST TOOK TEAS V!!!!!!
i just took my TEAs exam for the second time this morning. i ran out of time on the reading part last time (missing almost 15 questions) and failed b/c of my slow reading...this time, i paced myself and thought i was on a roll until the proctor yelled "Time's up!" i realized i had at least 8 questions unanswered (Reading again!) so i filled in anything!!......i'm hoping and praying that i did enough to get a passing score. i don't know what I'm gonna do if i don't get into a program in the fall. and the anxiety begins...

Summer Microbiology!? I'm Nervous
thanks for the feed back guys i have to correct myself i counted and the course is actually ***5 weeks*** my mistake!! and the class is from 12p-4p mon-thurs. even though its one week longer then i anticipated I'm not sure how much more material can be covered in that amount of time. @LexiMena, i went on ratemyprofessor and looked her up. she seems like a no nonsense type of woman according to her previous students. (3 lect exams, 3 lab exams, and 3 papers + homework and pop quizzes) YUP! I'm in for it. but i don't have any other choice, her class is the only one available at the time i need...but such is life :icon_roll .... however, i am so determined to get an A in this class, i need to bring my 3.4 up a notch to qualify for better grants and scholarships. wish me luck!

Young mom & pre nursing student
well, we're all friends here and now you know me and im sure half of the nurses/students on this site can relate to you as well. im 22, turning 23 this week and have a 1 1/2 year old son. single mom. not receving child support or anything from his biological father...nor am i ever holding my breath for the day... but i am making it on my own! im on to my last pre-requisite in july and then on to my program in the fall (GOD WILLING!) my friends are still partying and drinking/smoking while im reading bed-time stories and high lighting text books. some nights i only get 2-3 hrs of sleep all together. but i wouldnt trade this for anything because i have something true to work hard for... when it gets tough, and when you're feeling like you cant push yourself anymore remember why you are doing this in the first place. you want stability, you want a happy family, you want your child to have the best because she deserves it. i never want to tell my son that he cant have "that" pair of shoes because i cant afford it; id rather tell him he cant have it because he didnt EARN it. remember they didnt ask to be here...we wanted them here! so we owe them THE BEST. you will struggle for the next few years but think of how different your life will be after ONE year of being a nurse... every night before i go to bed, i visualize myself at my pinning ceremony and i picture my son's face smiling and his little hands clapping proudly because of his mama's accomplishment....GAH! i dont know bout you but i just cant wait for the day you have me for support, we can do this. we WILL do this! ALSO congrats on your engagment!:w00t:

Too FAT to be a nurse?
my mother was an over weight nurse for 20 years before she finally decided it was time to change her lifestyle. she was a good, caring nurse as an obese person but i must say is an even better one now. she had to undergo gastric bypass surgery in 2005 and since then has lost almost 200 lbs. she is a happier person due to a clean diet, and she includes more activity in her day. weight-loss is a personal journey, one that no one but YOU can chose to take. for my mother the weight loss goals stemmed from her increased physical limitations, health complications, and her desire to be active with her teenage daughters. but the choice was entirely hers alone. just as it is yours. i myself am persuing my dream to be a nurse in conjuction with my ideal health goal. i do think that being a healthy nurse does make for a happier and ultimately better nurse. as aspiring health care professionals we should be examples of good health for our patients.

Adelphi BSN program questions!
hi jlb1215, we share a similar story. im taking microbio this july to complete my associates degree in lib arts. i will be taking the teas exam for the second time june 9th for admission to adelphi. i failed the reading part only by 2%....i ran out of time and guess the last 10. i underestimated the pace required for the reading and spent the entire night before reviewing math and random science facts. we've got over a week to pull this off and i think we can do it easily. i called the nursing department (3 separate times just to see if i would get the same information each attempt---and i did) and they assured me that when you take the exam again they add the grade you get the second time with the grade of the portion(s) you failed the first time. but they will not penilize you if you fail a portion that you passed the first time, the second time you take it. (i hope that i came out as clear as i intended) so as long as you have all your pre-reqs completed and practice your pace with reading questions you should be fine for the fall enrollment. good luck! and if you want to study together this week or next feel free to contact me!
