Since I've started my job at this high school a little over a year ago, I still have no name. I'm still referred to as: Health Center Nurse. It didn't bother me until I got a email this week where a counselor introduced me on the email to a parent as: Health Center Nurse. No mention of my name at all. But obviously the counselor had to know my name since I was CC on the email. Also note, there were several people introduced on that email, but I was the only one not mentioned with a proper name.
I'm sorry, I just needed to vent. School is almost starting and I'm up to my ears in immunizations (that seem to not get entered from K-8th grade). Excuse me while I blast Destiny's Child "Say My Name" on repeat. They might get the message.

This will be my third year at my school and to many people I am still "the nurse." It does sometimes bother me, but it is getting better :) I have been known to call teachers "the teacher" so maybe they are getting the hint!

I ran into a little one at the store yesterday and she said "Mommy, look it's my nurse!" Mom says "Does your nurse have a name?" little one says: "yeah, MY nurse!" It was cute. But if an adult did it, it would surely lose its cute factor! The principal insisted that I go by Mrs.last name instead of Nurse-first name, still don't like it 3 years later.
Sorry Becky, I disagree. How many teachers or principals go by Miss Holly or Mrs. Sally? Does not sound very professional or respectful does it?
Teacher Joe or Principal John... also not very professional.
Most of us have worked very hard for our degrees and keeping current in our profession. It seems we should be accorded the same professional courtesy as teachers and administrators. If you are perceived as a professional, the work you do and what you say is taken more seriously.
OK, I'll get off my soap box now.

I have 2 nieces in my school and they call me Aunt XXX so some of their friends think they should be able to call me that as well. It's pretty funny.

I know where you are coming from. It seems like very few staff and faculty actually know my name or even remember me for that matter. I had a teacher who came to my office numerous times for different ailments last year, ask me the other day, "You're the nurse right?" I would have loved to have given a witty reply. Uh.....No. This year I'm a ninja!
I prefer to go by Nurse First Name. Mostly because of my young age and how difficult it is to pronounce my last name. Actually it's hyphenated now so that makes it worst. I'm thinking about changing it to just keep my husband's last name, but still...
Thanks for the laugh guys! I needed that.

Yes, I agree!! I can't tell you how many times my secretary will call me to her desk, "Nurse!" or teachers will say, "go see the nurse". Student also get so frustrated if I have to ask their name (That's a good thing if I don't know your name...). Then, when I ask them what my name is, they say, "Uhhhhh..."

I often get no greeting at all...kids just walk up and say, "Headache."
I'm happy with just some decent manners. I do hear teachers down the hall saying, "let's go see the nurse about that" to their students. But, on the rarest of occasions I am addressed as Nurse LastName.

The last time a teacher asked me that, my reply was "no I just play one on TV" .
I get the "Are you a Real Nurse?" from my students more times than I care to count. I'm not sure if they think I'm a CNA or what. There are teenagers so who knows. They probably watch Glee and saw a nursing student working as an school nurse. Or maybe because I look like them
