I Hate People (my rant)

Nurses Relations

Published

The Sum Up:

Why I hate people in general (reasons why):

*When they stare at me for over 3 seconds for no apparent reason! Especially, when I'm trying to eat a subway sandwich or something and they just feel the need to watch me eat. Or when I'm trying to fix my hair in a portable mirror and they just feel the need to glance at me more then twice. Once should be enough because it's rude!

*When they walk so slowww in front of me to the point where I just want to push them. Because I am a very impatient person to the point where the littlest things tick me off if it's not fast enough.

*I hate when people tries to start a conversation with me! So I just smile and nod my head and hope that they get the jist that I don't want to talk. And it's not even people in general, it's actually because I'm a bad conversationalist!

Why I dislike kids:

* I don't necessarily hate them but I do force myself to be nice as possible to them. However, I really don't like interacting with children unless it's to hold a baby.

*I don't want kids until my late 30s. Go figure. And I especially don't want to get married because every relationship I get into it only lasts for about 3 months because I love being a loner. If I'm going to work seeing people then I would like to come home and see no people.

But I love animals (I have 4 dogs)! However, I just don't see myself working with animals in the future because I would love to keep my hands in tact.

And no guys I am not trolling. This is really an everything for me and it's the reasons why it is so hard for me to commit to nursing. And I actually have an appointment set up with a therapist July 18 before I go off to nursing school and it's to find out why I really act this way.

So I just wanted to make this thread because after scrolling Allnurses for the last two days I find that threads like these are not common but their are people out there who is just like me and wants to go into nursing. I want to be a nurse because I find that I really like helping people and kids at their weakest points but other than that I hate people.

You sound like my ex-best friend, she doesn't like people or kids. She became a nurse & lasted 3-4 months. She now despises nursing & everything about it. She works in IT/computers now. I would suggest choosing a different career path.

Sometimes you will encounter people who aren't at their "weakest points." You're going to have to deal with patients, their friends, family, loved ones, coworkers, etc. It's kind of important to be a people person when caring for others. There will be a lot of teaching and talking and if you don't like people I don't see how it'll work..

I don't think you have to be a people person. I am definitely not a people person and that does not affect my work ability whatsoever. I'm socially awkward and social encounters make me uncomfortable, but I am great at what I do (I say humbly) and I am just fine with interacting with families, patients, and physicians alike. I think everyone is mainly getting hung up over the word hate. I think it's important to not hate people when you work as a nurse, but that doesn't mean you have to be a people person.

We did say that oath because it's ridiculously outdated.

OP, I've never been the most social, and I've never liked being around a ton of people. I have two friends and I don't want any more. I also hate it when people look at me. Hate. It. I'm married, but I spend way more time by myself than most married people do, and thankfully my husband lets me do my thing. I choose to work holidays so I can avoid being around my whole family. When people found out I was going to nursing school, they were shocked...and very confused.

But, for some reason, I love being a nurse.

Agreed on all points. I could have written this.

My patients and co-workers would never know I was one of those home-schooled misanthropes. 😆

Are you 12?

Who? The OP?

Human conditon is inherently evil?

It's so sadly interesting the different perspectives we have.

I like people. Humans are actually my favorite species. I know many people think people suck and feel more connected to animals but I guess I had early defining moments that gave me a different context.

You know that movie, We Bought a Zoo? I'm that girl in the end, people are my favorites.

Makes nursing easier I think, or at least more enjoyable.

LOL, you might want to rethink that career choice.

When someone comes to this site and asks for medical advice, y'all are chomping at the bit just to say "we can't give medical advice as per terms of service." I mean it is like truly a race to see who can say that first. But when someone comes to this site not asking for medical advice at all, but simply sharing their feelings and venting, y'all are falling over each other to diagnose and pathologize the poster's feelings and perspective.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'm quite certain introvert is not a diagnosis.

I took the hatred expressed by the op, to be the same kind of hatred I have for paperwork. You guys can go ahead and tell me not to become a nurse because I will have to do paperwork. Knock yourselves out. I do paperwork all the time, just because I hate it doesn't mean I can't do it, and it doesn't mean that I shouldn't do it. And just because I hate paperwork, doesn't mean I don't respect people who like it, and doesn't mean that I think it shouldn't exist.

I'm not a nay-sayer of the OP, so when I say what I am about to say, it is not reflective of her or my opinion of what she's experiencing.

That said....

Paperwork. People. Two incredibly different things.

Well I appreciate your feedback, I'm not one to have a closed mind, even though it appears from my previous posts I do. I just wanted her to think about other options in nursing, research etc.

Given your willingness to calmly consider what others have expressed, I'm leaning more toward, "you have an open mind." :)
