I Got in NYU!!!

Published

Finally I have the time to post this out....got my acceptance letter last friday from NYU's accelerated program!!!:roll I am very happy but worry and nervous and confused, all that mix-feelings all at the same time; and am still not sure if i should accept this offer due to the big tuition....

i was about to decide on taking out loans and go for it but then yesterday one of my classmate told me about the big debts (due to high interest rate) ppl owes after they take out loans for private schools scares me.....she said the guy was somehow mislead into taking out about 50 thousand dollars loans and ended up owing abt more than 100 thousands after graduation due to those small "fine prints" some lenders had on their agreement....my mouth drop right to the floor and it made me think twice abt borrowing loans.....:(

i guess the decision is on me to risk it or not...so again, decisions, decisions~~

anyhow, i am still happy and again good luck to those that are still waiting~!!!:heartbeat

What is NY like? New Yorkers are an interesting bunch, having been a New Yorker my whole life. Everyone walks fast in the City. A New Yorker can always tell who is from out of town -- they are usually walking slower and looking up at the buildings. New Yorkers think fast, talk fast and walk fast.

Life is expensive here, even if you live in the areas outside of the City. NY is one of the greatest cultural centers in the world. You can find food from every part of the world. There are people from every demographic and socioeconomic group imaginable. Most New Yorkers are friendly and generous.

You want to familiarize yourself with the NYC MTA train and bus system.

NYU's location is very eclectic. We don't have the weather or aesthetics you have in California but we got a vibe that you won't be able to shake if you ever go back to California.

I have often thanked God for being born in New York. It's not for everyone, but it is truly unique. Don't believe what you see on TV.

Congratulations on your acceptance into the program!

nurseyoon - congrats! are you in the 15 months accelerated program also? as for the official acceptance letters there aren't too much stuff in it (well at least in mine there wasn't), they really want your deposit first before they send you anything elses....so when you get your officical acceptance letter, within 3 weeks of the date they sent it you have to respond and send back along w/ your deposit first and then they will sent you more info on the orientation, etc. i've sent in mine this week so hopefully i'll get something in the mail next week regarding orientation b/c i believe they should have one in June... anyway hope i answered you question and if you have anything you can always PM me!!

once again congrats and hopefully i'll get to see you alll!!!!

Yes.. Thank you drizzle.

I did not get my acceptance letter yet.

So I called them again... and they said they will duplicate the letter and resend it today.

I hope I am gonna get my letter safely and

Yes, I am accepted to 15 months program.

hi everyone!

one question pop up in my mind.....have any of you done the CPR/BLS requirment yet?? As for me all i thought of is trying to finish my pre-reqs and i have totally forgotten about the CPR/BLS requirment!!! any of you have any idea if we really have to finish it on our own or you guys think NYU will provide classes (for free or reduced fee maybe?) for it? hope they will talk about it during orientation.....if not i really need to squeeze in time trying to get that out of the way also.....:uhoh3: anyone interested in taking this class together during the summer?:lol2:

hey visual good luck on your exam as for me i need to study for microbio final for next week also but here i am...:wink2: a little slack off....:p okie back to studying.....

It is new to me.

Where did you hear this?

Anyway,, what is BLS?

Actually, I took a training course at RedCross,, CPR and First Aid Basic.

If we have to, don't worry, your local redcross or somewhere else will have various courses... and usually it's a few hours or a day maximum.

^_^

Wow how cool that there are so many other people that got into NYU's accelerated program! I also received my letter last week and decided despite the crazy tuition that I will attend. I am still debating whether accelerated is really the best option, though. I'm kind of worried that I will be burned out quickly and the above 3.0 or get kicked out freaks me out a little.

finally i am done with microbio's lab and lecture finals .....one down, 3 more finals to go under 2 weeks for the other classes and i think i really need to start studying now for my A+P I finals....i am nervous already just to think about how much materials i will need to know for this final....:uhoh3:

Nurseyoon,

In NYU they have a CPR Clearance Requirment inorder for them to assign clinicals to us (details in the nursing student handbook online), and it has to be done 3 weeks before the semester begins; they required that the CPR course selected must be a BCLS for Health Care Providers, and BCLS stands for Basic Cardiac Life Support (or simply BLS - Basic Life Support). I am planning to take it with American Heart Association since it's good for 2 years whereas with RedCross it's only good for 1 year.... you dun need to worry about it now since you've taken it already but remember NYU will need all the informations (copy of your signed cards w/ issue date and the original letter doucumenting the CPR course completed) to be sent in by person or by mail 3 weeks before the semester begins.;)

To nurse in ny,

congrats~!!! yeah at first i have doubts about the accelerated program also, i mean how could you fit a bachelor degree's material all into only 15 months but to think deeper it makes sense since we've done our pre-reqs and undergrade credits all we have left is solely the nursing classes which takes abt 2 years (or 4 semesters) with the regular track and for the accelerated program it's 3 semesters plus one summer so really we didn't miss anything but it would be non-stop and stressful.....i am not sure if NYU is a bit lenient on testings since it's a private school (bell-curves, extracredits, etc) inorder for us to keep above 3.0....anyhow have you receive anything in regards the orientation besides the acceptance and finanial aid package?? hopefully all of us accelerated track and other regular track people get to see each other on the same orientation date!:wink2:

If you don't want to end up having enormous debt when you graduate in nursing school try to apply to CUNY ( City University of New York) nursing program. The tuition fee is very affordable but you have to compete with hundrends of applicants trying to get into nursing program which offers limited seats. Any of CUNY school that has nursing program will admit you not because of your money but because of your brain.

I don't think NYU or most schools admit students because of their money. I don't see what you are getting at here..... But thanks for the info about CUNY

" I don't think NYU or most schools admit students because of their money. I don't see what you are getting at here..... But thanks for the info about CUNY "

Facts: Many students who were not able to get into the nursing programs of CUNY after applying several times for years in spite of their high GPA were accepted to many private nursing schools when they applied. I myself had spent almost four years of waiting ( I even got my 2 associate degrees while waiting) before I was finally got accepted at CUNY. While waiting, I was accepted at NYU and 3 more private nursing schools, but I was hesitant to pursue because I did not want to end up paying exorbitant tuition fees if I could spent less money and accomplish the same goal, so I was saving my final decision to go to private school if CUNY would not accept me after my previous several unsuccessful attempts. I have met many students in private and public schools who were experiencing the same situation I had, but none of these students said that they applied to CUNY because there were turned down by NYU or other private nursing schools.

Reading between the lines, my statement is based on the facts out there. I might have offended anybody from private schools, but that was and still "is" not my intention here.

To make critics feel better, I would conclude that NYU and other "expensive nursing schools" DO NOT JUST accept students with money but also with brain. In addition, CUNY is not the best university in the city.

If one still wants to say "I don't see what you are getting at here" I would say "sorry, I cannot make my explanation simpler than that".

I do sincerely appreciate everybody's comments on my post regardless of what one would say because we all learn from one another here, and this is the purpose of this website. :saint:
