  1. It sounds to me that some nursing schools are not using good criteria for selecting some of their students. Many of the schools where I live use the lottery system which is ridiculous and degrading!!!!! Future nurses should not be randomly chosen from student's who make C's but instead precisely picked for their scholar and talents. With that in mind, nursing programs will always have people that drop out or fail out. Those cases can only be viewed and criticized independently but not as a whole group. If at all possible, I would find another school to attend. I would consider a program that looks at academic load and achievement, as well as other talents. Sorry that you are frustrated.
  2. NYU offers an accelerated BSN and then once accepted you can apply for MSN specialty. Also check out U Penn, Case Western Reserve, and Medical University of South Carolina for similar programs. I hope that helps.
  3. Thanks CEG for a sharing! Have you found that your fellow classmates a year or two a head of you are planning to do the same thing? (Work as a RN first)
  4. Hi All, This summer I am starting a grad entry CNM program! I am hoping to hear from those who have completed CNM School via the graduate entry route. Because of the lack of L/D work prior to the program, I am curious about your experiences. Did you feel prepared for practice after graduation? Was it difficult to find a position/work after graduation? Do think that L/D exposure before CNM School would have changed you as a midwife? Thanks for sharing!
  5. Just a guess here........ There are many factors that influence the weight..... I imagine nutrition would be one of the top ones....... but things like the mother's physical activity, genetics, etc…. it seems that these things are connected. I am guessing this is a question that research is probably still uncovering! I would love to hear if someone has any research to share with us!
  6. Hello Drizzle I will attend OHSU's grad entry Nurse Midwifery program this July! :eek:I can't believe I have only a month until school to starts! Needless to say I am super excited! I was real excited about the acceptance to NYU but I think that OHSU is a better fit for me. NYU is a great school and there is no doubt that you will get a great education and encounter some valuble experiences. And by the way, I think you are right....... it’s all about its all about what works for each individual and it’s great that there are so many options for people who want to enter nursing.
  7. NYU offers a second degree accelerated BSN program that does not require the GRE. Once accepted you can apply for direct entry into a masters speciality. Good Luck!!
  8. Does anyone have a schedule for an accelerated program?
  9. Well, it definitely depends on your math attitude and experience. Everyone is different but with your previous math classes you should be able to handle it. And if you find yourself struggling, get extra help. I completely agree with cad4296. The online class was more difficult for me than if i took an in-class instruction. (i have taken many online classes and found them easy to manage). It just took more time to understand the concepts because you are just reading vs. reading, hearing and seeing the explanations first hand. But again, everyone is different.
  10. I am relatively new to this site and am not quite used to the online etiquette. Myself, I would never say such a negative comment to a room full of people who are celebrating their acceptance to a NYU or a private nursing school...... but that's just me. I just thought that such a discussion would be better placed in a different forum and no doubt would be a great discussion and learning tool. So, anyhow..... I just want to say congratulations to everyone who will be starting nursing school soon!!!! Good luck to you all!
  11. Ditto what suzy253 said! Just some advice from someone who has dealt with a similar situation, keep the emails just incase.
  12. I don't think NYU or most schools admit students because of their money. I don't see what you are getting at here..... But thanks for the info about CUNY
  13. I agree with the rest....... Contact the schools that you are interested in attending! They are the best source for information. From my experience, accelerated programs and grad entry are bit more forgiving with your gpa (some more forgiving than others). Most schools that I have investigated are not only interested in GPA, but your current occupation and job experience, volunteer experience, GRE scores and your understanding of nursing. Your graduate GPA is great. So if that is your most recent course work, it will stand out. About the prereqs, do the best you can do with the ones you have not taken. I wouldn't take the time to redo any of the old ones until you find out from schools if they will count retaken courses. I wish you the best of luck! And don't give up!
  14. Hi Drizzle, Congrats on your acceptance to NYU.:balloons: I too have been accepted to their accelerated program and my jaw dropped when I saw how much I would need to pay to attend their school! (I will not be attending because I have been accepted to another program) But I think the other posts are right! It's your education and it will most likely be worth in the long run!!! Good luck to you!
  15. I also bought a dell inspiron 710m. I think the usual programs are ok. If you are looking for deals try the website fatwallet.com. Sometime you can find internet coupons and information about what stores are having sales! Happy hunting!
