were you on break? If not what do you expect???
No i was not on break, but i did not expect her to tell. What difference did it make her? Maybe god has a better job for me. I always wanted to work in a hospital.
What did i di so wrong not to desreve the job i always wanted? I am suspened for now. I honestly hope i do not get fired. No fair i would have not said anything, i'm not getting no raise on anything you know.
On an adult floor or anywhere, you have to be on your toes, no matter what your status is PCT vs. RN. Your behaviour is unprofessional. That's why I asked you if you were on break. Even if your job was to answer call lights and you put your head down on the desk, vs. "went missing" you should have found work to do to keep yourself busy. Lots of us work nocs and there are nocs that aren't as busy as others but why should they pay you to sleep. If you were in the breakroom on your break off the clock, they can't do anything about it. We've all felt sick at work, maybe that's why you were so tired. Going home sick would have been a better choice, unless the culture on your unit is relaxed enough to let workers sleep on the clock. I'm sorry for you, because I don't really know your life. U may be able to tell administration that it wouldn't happen again and that you simply put your head down for a few minutes because of an illness and didn't want to let your team down by leaving ill and tell them that it won't happen again. See what your chances are. But for many RN's and for me personally, I need the PCT/aide and when they think that they aren't part of the team or aren't needed they get "lost" and I'm the only one working the hall. Not safe, sorry.

Could there be something more to this? How long have u been working noc shift?
Is this something that occurs frequently? Do you feel tired during the day?
Any chance that u get tired when behind the wheel of a vehicle?
I am surely hoping that you answer some of these questions yes because if not
you are putting patients at jeopardy. If some of your answers are yes you might
want to be evaluated for Sleep Apnea

I WAS CAUGHT BY A NURSE AND SHE TOLD MANAGEMENTAND NOW I AM SUSPENDED UNTIL MONDAY.
Why the word "caught" if you weren't hiding?
I sincerely hope you are not fired, but I am concerned that you do not understand that what you did was wrong.
MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE NOT USED THE WORD CAUGHT! BUT TOLD MANAGEMNET THAT I WAS SLEEP! I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING YET, HOWEVER I LOVE THE WORK I DO AND REALLY NEED MY JOB AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE. I WILL FEEL HOPELESS. GOD IS IN CONTROL AT THIS POINT AND THERE IS MOT MUCH I CAN DO. OR CAN I? GO TO HUMAN RESOURCES AND FIGHT THIS OR WHAT? IS THERE ANYWAY I STILL HAVE MY JOB AT THIS POINT? I WANT AND DEFIANTLY NEED MY JOB. MY FAMILY AND NOT TO MENTION MY BOYFRIEND WILL BE LIKE WHAT THE HELL HAPPEN.

Hello, I used to live in harrisburg too. I feel sorry for you but at the same time this is normal for what what you did. It happen to every one. you feel tierd at night shift especialy if you did't get enough sleep. find some to do or get abook to read . I used to study at work when I work night shift and if I felt sleepy I would take abreak and go to diffrent nursing station to chat or get coffe or may be do your rounds every 2 hours. If you didn't get any sleep at home please call off better than sleep at the job. I'm not saying every time. sorry about that and hope they will give you another chance!!!!! just say the truth when they talk to you. good luck
Thanks for all the replies... I will have more later!
