ok well just found this out tonight at clinical. We got our grades last week (well our grades before our final this week), one of the students was told "your done" they got a unsatisfactory in clinical (med errors) and if you get a "U" in clinical you fail the program.
Now this is where it gets good. This person has been on probation since 2nd semester - now they fail clinical - BUT they are going to let them pass IF they do a paper. The reason why is the school does not want a law suit. UN FREAKIN BELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!
Guess the school is in a law suit now for getting rid of one student (student is playing the race card) and they don't want anybody else mad!!!!
Im just so mad - I work hard - and now I see somebody else slide thru - AAAAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!:angryfire Im sorry I just had to vent!!!!!!
I have 24 days left and then Im outta of there :w00t:

I guess I don't understand why you are upset about another student's issue, as it doesn't seem that you are affected. I wouldn't waste the energy- just focus on your own stuff and finish up.
guess Im upset as well as pretty much everybody else because rules are bent for this student. would you not be mad if you work hard - but somebody else breaks rules and fails but is still aloud to graduate.
like I said I had to vent - yes this person does not stop me from going on - but this is a profession of TRUST - this person has lied, cheated, and now failed but we will overlook all that and let them graduate.

I agree. Focus on your own issues and finish school.
From my experience, the BEST Nurses aren't always the ones who attained the BEST GRADES in school.
Just in case you're wondering...:uhoh21:

Honestly? No, I don't think I'd be mad. I don't have the time or energy. I'm more focused on reaching my goals than worrying about what others are doing.
Besides, a person could graduate from nursing school over and over until the cows come home, but they still have to pass the NCLEX to be a nurse.

If you think this exists only in nursing school then you are going to spend alot of your career being "flippen mad". You are going to see this in nursing. There are nurses who end up having to carry the weight of their co-workers and we do it otherwise patient safety is jeopardized. Management seems to have the mind set that a body is a body to fill a nursing position and that we all have "different skill levels". I agree with the different skill level attitude however it is very frustrating when working with a fellow nurse who just doesnt care whether or not they learn or do what they should do compared to one who truly doesnt know but wants to learn and improve.
The only thing I can say about your fellow classmate is dont get too bent out of shape about it because if he/she truly had lied, cheated and faked her way thru school she/he still has to face state boards and thats where he/she will realize that cheating/lying and faking school has finally caught up with them.
Ok - Im NOT letting this person hinder my grades - and I know you don't have to make the best grades to be a good nurse - I am venting - can you honestly say if you knew for 100% that a student in your class
1. took a disc with tests on it and made copies & got caught
2. broke into a locked room @ the school
3. comes to class intoxicated
4. multiple med errors
5. failed clinical but aloud to graduate
truthfully would that not make you mad or at least disappointed in your school?
guess thats the big thing is im disappointed in the school - Im venting, Im not quiting
You didnt say all that other stuff was going on in your OP. I would say if you are that upset about the situation that you need to contact someone higher up in the school and if they cannot do something and you are sure you have all the facts that you need to report it to your state BON (or whoever regulates schools) and let them handle it.
I am not doubting what you are saying Im just sitting here thinking to myself does this really happen as far as #1-#3 in your OP and if you know that for a fact and you are not tainted by anything related to this other student then it would/should be your duty to let someone higher up know about the situation.

I can understand your frustration and I would be frustrated too. I do however agree not to let this upset you too much because in the end it doesn't affect you. Chances are this person won't be able to pass the boards to become a nurse. She can only get away with so much for so long.

I guess now I'm curious as to how you know this for certain? I feel like in these situations there are always details that uninvolved people aren't aware of, and theres always the big rumor mill.
Secondly, I would think that if all of this were really true this person would have been dismissed from the program, regardless of how tolerant the administration and faculty is.
Third- I will repeat, not your problem or concern. If you want to finish I'd truly stay out of it and keep quiet... my personal philosophy in school is to keep my head down and do my work and stay out of the drama. Administration and faculty get paid to handle these things, and they will do so as they see fit. Continue to work hard and take pride in being a good student. Who cares about what other people do? You certainly can't control other people or the outcome of this situation, so why spend the energy being upset over it? Nursing school is stressful and hard enough with out worrying about things that don't concern you. Try to relax and let it roll off your back. Its a skill you will need through out your career and life.
higher up does know about it as high as the owner of the school - and BON has been notified - and all IS true and student admitted to it -all the school knows about it - BON is looking into it - and school like I said does not want any waves.
like I said very disappointed in my school - I cannot wait till Im done. Im venting just like some vent because somebody has a cell phone on in class -

I actually agree with you on this. I just graduated in December and I am fully aware this stuff happens in the real world and that we need to learn how to deal with it in a profession manner. But I have seen this kind of stuff go on in my own department, and to me it is a characteristic of a nurse who is unprofessional, unsafe, and violates veracity. I think having a good moral character is the foundation of any good nurse. And I also think why this student is so angry isnt just because her department is beinding the rules for this other student, but that the department itself is being unprofessional by letting less than acceptable behavior slip through the cracks.... It can be discouraging to see someone who doesn't deserve it progress to graduation, especially when you busted your butt. Bright side is that crap like that probably won't be tolerated in the professional world and she will get whats coming to her. Sad thing is, the safety of a patient might be compromised by her "cutting corners" method of doing things.
