I work at a small nursing home( less than 55 residents) for a little over 2 yrs. On May the 19th a new nurse started working. She's an RN with 30 yrs experience. She was suppose to just do weekend coverage. She orientated with me for 5 days. When the new schedule came out I noticed she was scheduled the same days I was. This woman is very good friends with the administrator. When I got off duty I called the DON and asked why the schedule looked that way and she informed me that she was going to let me go because she didn't think a nursing home was my "forte". I was in shock. Never heard anything from her that there was a problem with my work or anything. I believe I was discriminated against just so somebodys friend could have a job. Meanwhile the RN has now refused to work my schedule when she found out I had been let go. Where do I go from here?
Straight to the nearest employment division office to file for unemployment benefits.
Then, ask your former colleagues for professional references.
If you want to fight for this job, your next stop would be a qualified attorney who specializes in employment law. Me, I would simply chalk this one up to experience and move on; who wants to work for a facility that treats people that way? :angryfire
Whatever you do, I wish you the best. And don't let the jerk-wads of the world get you down!:redbeathe
Thank you for your support. I wish I worked with nurses like you.
I just hate you had it put to you like that. So un cool. I had kind of the same thing happen to me at a MD's office, I started working at a doctor's office and worked my tail off - the primary nurse went on a 2week vacation after I got aclimated to the office. The day she came back and work I was fired, not by the MD or office manager but the nurse that went on vacation. She just said "... I don't like you, never did but had to find someone to work my spot so I could go on the cruise." Whatever!
