I can't find a Cna job!!

Published

I'm so stressed out I passed my state board january 28,2015 and it seemed like I can't find a job I have been looking for months now..im so ready to move out of California I feel there is no jobs out here and if they hire you is a on call job or part time with no benefits...the closes thing to a job I have is working a registry at a daycare, facility and kaiser hospital on call!! I tried Homecare for a while but seem like when I get a client i waste my time in working for them for a couple weeks and they find someone else that's way older with more experience because they think I'm to young.... I feel so betrayed I almost want to go back to culinary and find a bakery job!!! I'm so glad I'm moving to Tennessee in September maybe it won't be so competitive out there and I have a chance in finding me a full time job.. I only have one client that I work with.. The reason I have her because she is a friend of the family and she knows me and knows how good of a worker I am....she doesn't judge me because of my age..im just blessed to work with her to save to leave out of California..I want to cry right now because I want to save enough money to leave.

I'm so sorry that you had such a bad experience in home care. I've had a very good experience with home care and usually a good agency would keep you busy even if some clients did not turn out. I've been let go by clients as well due to various reasons, but my agency always would find new clients for me to work with.

Have you tried looking at some places that are a little outside the box. There are retirement homes, homes and hospitals for vets, homes for the disabled, rehab facilities,

I hope that you will be able to find something soon.

It is really difficult to get your first position as a CNA unless you know someone. Have you tried assisted living facilities? Call around to different facilities and ask if they have group interview days. Wishing you the best!

Have you tried another Homecare agency? Some are really looking for help!

I tried assisting living but knowone never called me back.. That's how competitive California is!! I'm ready to move out of this state!! I might have to go back to baking.

I tried over 6 agencies out here and know steady work im scared of agency in California.. The only thing I made was a care.com account and hoping I can find someone private.. I have a lady that called me from off of care.com she is looking for weekend work!! I'm thinking that's better then a agency because the agency don't pay good and private care pays better!! I go meet with her tomorrow hopefully she hires me.

Agencies may pay a little less but there are advantaged to working for one then being on your own.

If you are taking care of someone you know it's OK, but you get into riskier waters when it comes to working with people you do not know. Especially when it comes to legal matters. Let's say a client in your care has a fall. Working for an agency I am covered by them but if you are on your own and you may be seen as liable and family can sue you.

Also I have access to nurses 24/7 that I can call if something seems wrong with my client.

I'm glad you may have found some work, but unsupervised private duty like that doesn't count toward certification renewal, so I urge you to keep trying to find something in a facility, even just PRN. You need to get those supervised hours for cert renewal.

Yea I know that's why I'm leaving out of here in September so I can find a facility job..they are all full out here.. I keep my ceus up..I just take it at this school that offers the classes.. I took two classes already for this year I just need one one.

Have you touched up your resume and cover letter? It could really make a difference. I'm also in California and all my CNA buddies found work right after and San Diego is very competitive. Apply to as many facilities as you can and look for those that do on the spot interviews. With those you can sell yourself with a winning personality.

Yes I have ..im going to look over it more

You may have to accept a part time or on call position for now just to get your foot in the door.

Once an employer sees how you work you will have 1st grabs at a full time position when one opens up. It's usually how employers fill full time positions. They post the positions in facility first and higher within.

If you are in a highly competitive area it may be the ONLY way into a full time position.

Keep in mind, you can work more than one "on call"/PRN position at a time.
