  1. I didn't study for the test. I did well on that. Not sure which colleges accept the credits from there honestly. It's a certificate program so I'm sure not many. As far as being hired in hospital LPNs usually aren't in NYC unless you have connections. They are mostly hired here in LTC facilities, clinics, doctors offices, and Homecare. Nurse King
  2. Thank you. Nurse King
  3. Yea I did. School is just ok. You have to make the most of it. Pass rate is very low. About 48 percent. I studied a lot for my boards and passed on the first try. They say they help you look for work but they don't. I did that all on my own. Best of luck. Nurse King
  4. Hello lovely nurses, Can LPNs be school nurses in Massachusetts? I know in NYC we can't. Thanks Nurse King
  5. It took me about four months to find a job that I wanted to take. Many sketchy dirty LTC facilities I turned down because I knew my license would be at risk and it would hurt my soul. Found a job doing pediatric home care nursing and my agency gave us new grads a one week class in trachs and vents (unpaid but was a great refresher since we just brushed be topic in nursing school). Don't settle, it will make you wonder why you went into nursing if you don't like it! Nurse King
  6. You are 100 percent correct. Yes you must be confident to do Homecare nursing. I'm very lucky that I have a case coordinator that is easily reachable if I have any questions, and the child's mom is very hands on and isn't intimidating if I have any questions. I wouldn't have taken the gig without a class first. You barely touch all of these subjects in nursing school and I def needed a refresher course. I shadowed a nurse for three shifts (the night nurse) and she was awesome in slowly going over everything with me. I was extremely lucky that they asked me to be their nurse because at this point I was now well aware of my patient and her plan of care so it was pretty smooth sailing and I'm pretty confident in my skills. As for being a new grad, any way you slice it, it's risky. You have to trust your instinct before you take any job. I was offered a private case beforehand but I rejected it because the child had many medical issues and I wasn't going to get any training. Not only was I putting mg license at risk but I felt that child's life would be at risk because I wasn't confident or prepared to handle that case. Thanks for the kind works BeachyNurse and the insight too. Nice to meet you! Nurse King
  7. FYI they do preceptor training for new grads every month if you are interested. It's a great way to get your feet wet! Nurse King
  8. That's the name of my agency. Yes, it's Homecare based but still an agency and is not private duty. It was a class that was one week on trach and vent care. This person was asking for agency an that hires new grads, and my agency does. Never did they say they wanted a facility agency. Nurse King
  9. White glove community care has a preceptor program for new grads. It's a one week class and then they place you with a case after you shadow a nurse for a few shifts. I lucked out and the case that I was shadowing liked me so much and requested me as their daytime nurse (pediatric). Look into white glove! Free health insurance for full time employees. Nurse King
  10. $23.83 per hour pediatric Homecare NYC. Nurse King
  11. I took my boards 11 months after graduation and I passed the first time. I was planning my wedding and wanted to enjoy that process. I waited till after my honeymoon then hit the books HARD for one month about 4-5 hours a day and took time off from work to focus. Nurse King
  12. They are a scam. I went in for a interview and nothing happened after I was promised a lot. Use white glove care they are great! Nurse King
  13. Forgot to mention I'm a new grad. Nurse King
  14. $23 Homecare pediatric client. NYC Nurse King
  15. Have you tried another Homecare agency? Some are really looking for help! Nurse King
