I finally bought liability insurance

All these years in nursing and I never felt like I needed it. Now with all the sue happy patients and families, I don't want to risk anything.

The irony of this is a friend called me this morning and told me a friend of hers is being sued. The hospital hasn't been named, only the nurse. No either. I'm scared for her.

Do you mind me asking who you got it through? I will be starting my first RN job so have gone through American Family Insurance where we have our car and house insurance. Did you go through a company like that or one that just deals with ?

I went through NSO. I know they have been around for years and a few friends use them.

Professional Liability Insurance for nurses, nursing medical malpractice.

I mailed my renewal today, so both of us were thinking of the same thing.

All these years in the profession, I never felt the need. Now that pt's expect superior service and then some, I think they are all hypervigilent looking for reasons to sue. Justified or not. I hope I never use it!

This is something I need to get to. By the Grace of God I haven't sued... but still need this insurance.

Yeah, as cheap as it is it's foolish not to carry this coverage. It'd be a good deal even at several times the cost. Anyone can sue over anything, even if it is totally bogus, if they can afford to hire a lawyer or can convince one to take it on contingency. Sure, you might ultimately defeat it, but how many people have money set aside to pay for their own lawyer?

Exactly. Attorneys are not cheap as we well know.

I've been with NCO since applying for student coverage more than 20 years ago and have always been happy (but thankfully I've never had reason to 'need' them).

I don't know that I'd feel comfortable getting malpractice through my home/auto company, I like that NCO doesn't have their fingers in a bunch of different pots. Their rates are very affordable and they are pretty hassle free if your practice changes and you need to alter your coverage.
