This site has made me feel better about being 36 and just now starting school. Been a paramedic for 15 years, was trying and waiting for LA city fire dept, but, I can't wait forever. So, decided to go on for plan B. So far so good.

You're still younger than me! I'm 40 and starting over.. to me this is a new career. Did mortgage underwriting, we all know where that went, now I'm a CNA taking pre-req's to get my RN license. I also work with a nurse who obtained her license at the age of 50! It's never too late to begin.

I am 35 and will be starting my first clinicals in the fall. I have been finishing up pre-reqs for the last two years, and just finished our Introductory semester of NS. Luckily I had some credits from going to college back in the day, so I won't be more than 37 when I graduate! I plan to get at least my BSN eventually, however, so I may very well be in school for the rest of my life. :uhoh21:
I don't usually feel too old, and there are some other students my age. But you find out how old you really are when your micro professor asks who has heard of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, and you and two other people raise your hands! Or when another asks how many of you were old enough to vote in the 2004 election, and there's only like, two of you.
We're not old! We're are AGED...like fine cheese and wine.

i start clinicals in the fall and i’ll be 38. i was worried about being the oldest rn student in my program but after attending the new student orientation a few weeks ago; there were a lot of us.
honestly, i wasn't ready for nursing school in my 20's or even early to mid 30's. now i feel like i have the life experience and attention span to finish a rigorous program like nursing.
i'm excited to get started and i'll only be 40 when i graduate. besides, isn't 40 the new 30. :)
good luck to everyone!

Like I tell my kids, sometimes it takes a while to figure out what you want to be when you grow up! But better to be a late bloomer than never to bloom at all!
BTW, I'm almost 39 and have a year to go.

I'm 47 and 6 months into my program. I was worried about age at first but it's turned out to be just fine. I will have plenty of years to work as a nurse before I retire. Another woman in my class is in her mid to late 50s and she's doing well too. As she says, "this is part of my journey."

i agree. i could not have done this when in my twenties. i am smarter, and a much better student than i was then. and i have gotten to where i enjoy a challenge - always a good thing in ns!
yes, and 35 is the new 25 .
