I fail Teas twice, what should I do now..

Published

when I just start my A&P class, my nursing friend told me the Teas exam is super easy, I should take as quick as possible..so I did, and I fail....and then I go to the nursing office to ask for how many time Teas exam I can take here, and is it affected when I apply to get into the program? a young girl told me that I can take as many times as I want, and the score number is not important, the important thing is my GPA of A&P, Chemistry, ENGLISH and psychology. She also said the only I need is to past the Teas exam... so I did again, no surprising, I didn't pass again. during the time I check my Teas result, the staff told me I can only take twice on this college, otherwise, If I really want to continue this major, I need to transfer....My school is Lagcc

I dont know what should I do now, I'm not interesting on other fields, but seems there has no any other colleges accept me except privacy college, but they are too expensive. My ENG101 AND psychology are both A, but chemistry is B.... I'm taking my A&P now. I don't know what is my next step....any opinion please? or any public college for nursing in NYC for recommence? Im so frustrated

never trust what the people around you say all the time always do your own research as well! ?

You right, the English isn’t my first language. I’m not good in grammar and don’t have enough vocabularies to hold me back to understand big article in one minute. but it’s okay. I will learn.

I actually want to know will be it affected that I failed twice Teas if I apply for other college? because my current college only allows students fail twice, and the record for falling two time Teas will never remove from online page :( what is the better I can do for next step now. Any advice please

Everything is too late:( but I know it now

I don't think you failing the TEAS twice will affect other schools. I'm not 100% certain, though.

You will have to ask each individual school about number of attempts regarding TEAS, because if it's 2, you will not be able to apply there, either. I also encourage an English as 2nd language class as well. You need to be able to get into school, but be able to master content once you are there. I wish you much success!

ESL really does not help outside student. However, I actually pass the basic English test...and I got A in both Eng 101 and Eng 102... I have no problem with college classes and speaking, just no good for that reading.. also my grammar has some problems, but thanks. I will improve more

I don't know the answer to your TEAS question, unfortunately. However, as nursing faculty, I would highly recommend a writing and grammar course before applying to a program. I don't say that to be negative or critical. I say that because charting is such a significant component of communication in nursing, and you need to be able to safely and accurately convey your message to anyone reading your notes. Sometimes, two very similar words have very different meanings, like "accessed port" vs "assessed port." In the program I teach in, writing typically accounts for about 1/5 of assignment grades as well on discussion boards, papers, projects, etc. because the ability to communicate effectively in writing is such an essential nursing skill. Writing, grammar, and enhanced vocabulary classes do exist for adult ESL learners seeking continuing education, so you may just have to do some searching. I have a close relative who teaches these courses at a community college. Building these skills will also help you with your comprehension and ability to process patient/school assignment information more quickly and accurately. Have you taken TOEFL yet? (Test of English as a Foreign Language) It is an admission requirement for the current program I teach in as well as former programs I've taught in for any students whose first language was not English. Again, I don't mean to be discouraging. I've just seen the impact on students who don't grasp the language/writing skills needed to be successful. This can also translate to bedside problems if the patient can't fully understand a nurse's word choices or get the nurse to understand them. I wish you the best of luck going forward!

I didn't take TOEFL, but I was done a similar program calls GED and also pass the CAT test of CUNY.

GED and CAT are not an equivalent of TOEFL. Again, please look into classes that will help with your English, as communicating is a large part of nursing, both school and actual practice. If you don't, I suspect that you'll not be as successful as you'd like.

Should I take TOEFL as well? maybe you right... I need more time to build my English fluently as most native speaker.

I don't want to be rude, but I believe it is incumbent upon the members of AN to be honest. Your writing in this thread shows that you need an intensive course (probably more than one) in English in order to be successful in an American college. Seek out every opportunity you can find in order to improve your ability to communicate in English (both verbally and in writing).

A&P are essential for TEAS. Whoever told you you don't need them is a moron or ***. Take A&P and you will do better.

I guess its because the internet tells you that the test measures your basic knowledge of Mathematics, Science, English and Language Usage, and Reading, however, this also would be different depending on the education you receive before college. There are many people that failed the TEAS test where I am from but passed A&P, so I think there is more to it. I do think that if you are not somewhat fluent not in English but proper English since this is what the test uses it may be a problem. Basic English classes that we take in grade school are where we are supposed to learn these skills but not everyone does. You can go to amazon.com and order books that may be able to help you with this. There are TEAS practice test online that you can use to help guide you in what you need help on. Nursing school is not easy, actually the TEAS test is easier, so in order not to waste time prepare yourself in your weak areas before you start nursing school. Most schools require some type of entrance exam, so be prepared for this. You may have to relocate if you are unable to find a school near you that will accept your failing the test twice. The nursing career is not something to take lightly. Make sure that you are at your best since this will help you in the future.
