I cannot ever seem to pass my NCLEX!!! No matter what I do and how hard I try!!

Published

It's getting ridiculous already on how I keep trying for my NCLEX and still not working! What am I doing wrong?! I studied EVERYTHING!!! And i mean everything. I feel so dumb already. Right now I am in limbo.

Should I jump right back in with reviewing because I want to take the test again after the 45 day waiting period or take a break? I don't want to waste my time with waiting and at the same time I want to get my license this year. I am so tired of trying this is my 7th time and i still failed! I am running out of hope! It seems like God never wants me to pass! I am so hopeless and frustrated and so tired of studying.

The last test I took I ran out of time. I took the review from Delmar's and passed all my mock test. I can't seem to get a hold of my test anxiety! Can someone out there please hear me out. I am so desperate to the point where I'm an inch away from giving up

thank you very much... my doctor prescribed me xanax before but I told him I had a bad reaction to it... so I assume he be giving me something else.. but before I will go back to him I will ask help from my family which is always the best medicine. thank you

Please reconsider seeking medical and psychological assistance over family assistance. Anxiety that leads to syncope is NOT a normal variant and warrants a full medical and psychological work up. Syncope from anxiety could be the result of any number of underlying conditions from cardiac, neuro or psych.

Passing out/during an exam due to "anxiety" is more than simple test anxiety. Please take care of yourself first. The NCLEX and a US nursing license will still be there once you have finished consulting with a medical and psych teams. This screams multi disciplinary assessment.

You may be shocked at what you discover even if it is just self reflection if the medical assessment is WNL. Anxiety resulting in "passing out" needs further professional assessment.

Good luck. Put your health and well being first. The NCLEX can wait a little longer.

Thank you... I have MVP which a lot of nurses told me that is not that much of a big deal but I know that it causes panic and anxiety attacks. It's been a while since I went back to my cardiac doctor... so I have to go back to him again... I was supposed to be put on cardiac monitoring the last time but I told them no because I couldn't afford it at the time...

I have taken my refresher course the moment I found out I failed again.. so far my mock tests are getting me more than 60% in a 75 item and I just finished my test a minute ago and I had 70% out of a 105 from NCSBN. I talked to my mom and she is helping me through my anxiety and told me that I was the one who puts pressure on myself that's why I either pass out or black out mentally the moment I take a test. I have always had this problem since I was young and I didn't even know about it until she told me.

May sound like a dumb question, but are you remembering to "breathe" when you're testing? If you're extremely anxious, it could be you're hyperventilating and doing shallow breaths, which could cause lightheadedness & fainting.

Next time you test, if you feel anxious, take a few seconds to take a long, slow, deep breath. This will help lower your HR and decrease some of the anxious feelings you're having.

Get the tests done. You have likely spent $2000 for NCLEX, BoN and review fees so far.

Ask the physician for a payment plan. Go to a subsidized outpatient clinic if need be. Average costs are $500-$1200 for a holter monitor assessment. Ask your family for help with the costs.

You need to take care of yourself first. I'm sure your parents will agree.

Edited to add: while MVP is often benign I have at least 2 friends from college that thought they had nothing to worry about with MVP. One had finally got a multidisciplinary work up, she was misdiagnosed with MVP originally. She didn't have MVP but serious anxiety that caused palpitations and even benign ECG changes from the tachycardia. Once she learned coping mechanisms that worked for her she had better control of her life & anxiety. Another had anxiety and near syncope with MVP. The only reason he agreed to go for a cardiac work up was to shut me up ( I won the stubborn nag war). ;) His MVP had changed from his initial benign findings as a young teen AEB changes on his echo and holter studies. He needed further cardiac treatment & precautions. Now he's fine and travels the world (last year he went to Kenya on Safari with his wife).

I have dozens of people with MVP that have no issues. Why not find out if there is more that can be done?

yes right now I don't have any choice but to seek medical help anymore... my relaxation techniques and work outs aren't helping anymore so I shall go and seek medical help because I don't really know how bad it's gotten... Thank you for your concern

oh no it's not a dumb question at all... I do have that problem especially the moment I can feel my heart flutter... it's really giving me a hard time coz it has gotten worse now more than ever. This test really just hit me so hard because I was an OR nurse in my country and It hurts to see that from my perspective it seems like I can't do what I love the most.

As nurses we usually make terrible patients. It does sound like there is more than just a psych issue at play. I would take time to myself & get all the health issues figured out. If stress/anxiety is one of the reasons you pass out, it would be terrible for you to pass out on the job. Good luck getting help, I know how expensive & timely it can be. But it will be all worth it in the end.

thank you so much... I wanted to do it for so long but I was continuously told by the nurses in the hospital and the last time I was in the emergency room that it was not a big deal and I even had one nurse at that time that treated me so bad I didn't want to go back anymore for an emergency... After that I just told my parents to just carry me to bed every time I pass out inside the house. At this point I just really have to go back to my cardiologist, I don't know what's going on coz it's not only during stressful times I pass out... excessive heat or just even when I'm sitting down makes me faint. Thank you very much though for everything it has been very helpful towards my situation.

Don't give up!!

Please make an appointment ASAP. It seems your life depends on it. I'm shocked your parents agreed to just carry you back to bed if you pass out at home. Find another facility. Do something as per your posts your situation seems to be escalating
