I can handle almost anything other than staff members going into full blown panic mode because a kid threw up in their trash can.

I was on my second trip of the morning, loading an injured kid into their parent's car via wheelchair. Get back to the front office "the teacher needs you in room 415 immediately, a student threw up in trash can." I asked secretary to call teacher back and tell her just have student meet me back in clinic. On way down hallway, teacher flags me down "oh my god, she is vomiting A LOT." Go to classroom, ask kid if she can walk to clinic (I still have wheelchair, so....) she says she can. Get back and another secretary states "that teacher already walked to clinic looking for you, we told her you would be back in a few minutes." So basically, she went to every office in the school to have me tracked down even though she knew I was busy..........

Oh, i get that - even the littles, i tell them i can't understand them if they are crying or whining. Take 2 deep breaths and talk to me in a voice that i can hear. The other one that gets me is standing at my door 25 feet away and whispering their complaint on mumbling it into their chest. I get it if it's something embarrassing or if i have a full office, but this is in an empty office and usually coming to ask me for a bandaid.

Yes! My teachers loose their minds when I can't come and pick up the student and the trash can from the classroom.

Also staff who insist on sending the same little one down to me over and over and over.

Yeeeesss! or the calls that I get to return to my office right away because a student is bleeding badly and i return (because i am out taking care of paperwork, registering a new student, in archives, etc) with some urgency only to find a kid holding a tissue with the tiniest drop of blood under their nose. :cautious:

This thread is like "C'mon Now" on steroids :laugh:

All I have to say is I agree with everything everyone has said, but will add to vomit overreactions the annoyance of blood overreactions, i.e. almost every single time a staff member has told me someone is bleeding "a lot" it has been a teeny tiny amount.

(edit: I don't know how I missed Flare's reply before posting mine! Basically ditto what she said :up: )

Yes! Feel free to go berserk over a picked scab and then yell at me again when I don't send a kid with a blood sugar of 50 right back to class. It doesn't matter how many in-service trainings given...just not getting it.

At least yours use tissues. Mine drip all the way down the hall. Ugh.

SO annoying. I don;t even let my littles get away with that (I have K-2). Teachers think I am mean when I am telling them to speak louder, stop whining. I use my mom voice and say "I can't understand you when you whine. Once you speak in a regular voice I will listen". Sometimes I feel like I could say that to teachers too;)

Well I have a headache, and a sore throat and and a stuffy nose.

- Yes, you just told me that - You told me you've felt like this for a few days What have you been doing at home to help feel better.

*(cue the deer in the headlight stare)*

Have you told a parent?

Yes...

Have they done ANYTHING to help you? given you medicine? taken you do the doctor? Made you tea? Had you rest?

They just said ok...

Then I give my boilerplate speech colds / allergies / congestion. I swear I should paint it on the walls as you enter.

Please tell me i'm not the only one having that exact interaction several times a day...

Yup, I have to say "use your words" a million times a day because I refuse to to treat (unless obviously and emergency) or speak to someone who comes in and just points at their invisible scratch, TELL me what your issue is and I can help you, I do not understand what you pointing at some random body means...is there pain there, a cut, you need ice, a bandaid, you hurt yourself, what ?? Not the time to play 100 questions!
