This how desperate things are getting. I'm sick can't go in today. But so many others have called off that my call off wasn't accepted. What does that mean? I have to work sick? They are sending the nursing squad to my home and escorted me to work by force? We can't be sick. That's it. Work until you drop dead.

Calling out dead. That's an interesting idea. Oh, good morning miss Tina, I'm calling out dead today...sorry can't come to work. Dead people don't go to work. Good day.

Things are so coo coo ka ka crazy right now, nothing normal works anymore. We're in uncharted territory.
About 20 years ago at a SNF I worked at implemented a policy that if you were to call in you needed to go in to the facility and be assessed by the charge nurse. OK, I'll follow your rules. I went in, promptly puked on her shoes and went home. That policy was rescinded shortly thereafter. Nothing like your employers calling you a liar when you're sick ?♀️

That reminds me of one of my favorite t-shirt slogans- "I used up all my sick time so I called in dead."
It sort of sounds like a good idea for a country song...

You have bragged on this forum about how you call off following any time you have been asked to work over. Perhaps they are on to you!
Hppy
A couple of years ago we had Noro virus go through the unit, affected both staff and patients. A newer nurse called me at home, she had it and tried to call outing they weren't accepting her call. She was vomiting and having diarrhea. She asked me what she should do, I told her to call employee health and report her symptoms. They said she couldn't work. Common sense exists in some departments.
That is totally ridiculous. Are we not human? Do we not get sick and under the weather? If I feel sick I’m calling out- if you don’t accept it , oh well, write me up do what you feel you need to do. My health will ALWAYS come before a job. When you are dead and gone you are nothing more than a two minute memory in someone’s conversation.
