I bought a Littmann off Ebay...is it fake?

Published

After looking at the picture listed a bit tonight...I did some research and looked at some pics of Littmann's. The one I got looks like a Sprague to me. I emailed the seller and she claimed that it is not marked, but she knows it is because she got it "at a sale" and the lady told her it was, plus her best friend has one and told her it was a Littmann as well.

Hopefully the link works!

What do you think? I am hoping I am wrong or at least that the woman didn't know she was selling the wrong brand!

Thanks.

That stethescope looks suspicious. I would not buy it. Best to purchase a legit littman from the littman website.

Nope. Not a Littman. Hopefully you didn't already pay 35 bucks for that!

That is "so" not a Littman.

Lacking the L trademark on the diaphragm. No soft ear pieces.Take a look at the Littman website and you will see what I mean.

I doubt they come in purple. If it doesn't say Littman, don't buy it assuming it is.

I just want to point out that ALL Littman's have the rubber tubing going up each side of the metal pieces of the earpieces. NO Littman has a bare metal/aluminum piece between the earpeices. If it has one at all it is covered by the rubber (or whatever material the tubing is made of).

Also, I used to be a pretty active seller on ebay. You MUST MUST MUST research BEFORE you place a bid or you will end up in situations like this where either you will work something out with this seller or you pay and then file a claim with paypal. Don't count on any help from ebay.

Also, also, I personally would NEVER buy anything from anyone on ebay who doesn't list their shipping costs IN the auction. Use your feedback for this seller carefully and NOT until you are satisfied (or not) with the outcome of the transaction - whatever you decide to do.

Yep, they do.

I did not know that. I didn't do my research :coollook:. I wasn't planning on buying one, though.

Perhaps the seller really didn't know she was selling the wrong brand, but I think you got swindled. Sorry to say, that is not a picture of a Littmann. Littmann doesn't carry the "sprague" type of stethoscope. Hopefully you can get your money back, but not all is lost... both the sprague stethoscope and the blood pressure cuff is worth about what you paid for them.

Ya, that is definitly NOT a Littman! Whoever bought that and put it on eBay should have known, I hope that they didn't pay alot for it. Sorry!

Silly question from Uk nurse, when I come to US and work will I need to buy my own Stethoscope and if so what would you recommend and what would you expect to pay. I saw a littman on line for £30 = $58 aprox.

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

I am in your shoes don't know much about stethoscopes....anyhow just to be on the safe side you should plan on buying one from a reputable seller just to eliminate the "just in case".

I love ebay and have gotten many wonderful deals including a truck and boat.....BUT also have come across very raunchy sellers who scam you, make false claims and send you something that is not what was listed.

Take all the other advices and be safe. I am on the hunt for one too and they can get quite expensive but atleast you know it is the real deal.

Good luck to you. :p
