I'm back!!.

As you know, I was upset about the multitude of posts with the lethal combination of ignorance and arrogance. For several weeks, I didn't read All-Nurses, but decided to check in this evening. I guess I just can't let those people win and decided to come back for the fight.

I want to thank all of you for the personal messages. It helped me make the decision to hang in for awhile longer. There are so many of you with such a desire to learn and to share your experience that I must say I really missed you. Also, I really want to see Mike become a CRNA, Maybe then I will retire.

Much of my angst came from the tread about using local before starting IVs and it was not from those of us in anesthesia, including students and our token AA member (got to love you JWK). It was what is, in my observations, what is wrong with nursing (non-anesthesia) today. Lots of opinions that are not evidence or experience based, not reflected in the literature or in valid studies, just opinions. In fact, some of them were so clearly erroneous that I got upset that these people are actually doing patient care and are so misinformed.

As most of you know, I love this field and have devoted over 46 years to it. I would like to keep our discussions on relevant clinical and professional issues where we can all learn from each other. I want to nurture those who want to come into this profession and mentor the ones who are young in the field. Also, I am not afraid of controversy and welcome a good debate and I promise I will always support my arguments with the facts. But I have little patience or time for those who want to start a battle for their own personal reasons and if they do, they should be prepared to own up to their personal motivations.

Let the games begin.

YOGA CRNA

yoga

Specializes in I know stuff ;).

Gratz AT!!!!

Athomas congratulations!!!! What fabulous news!

I had quit reading the thread about local some time back because it was annoying, so didn't even realize Yoga had left. I'm glad you're back, your contributions are valued around here.

Specializes in ER/SICU.

Yoga 2 pages you should feel honored. I have been checking this board out since 2001 people like you brennasdad, kcmugh, nilepoc are part of what inspired me to move forward toward the crna profession. The board has changed over the years I remember when it was more clinically related discussions. I took so many "nuggets of knowledge" from your post. You also are one of the few qualified to discuss medical/legal questions not just spit out hearsay. I am glad you came back, funny the reason I read that thread was that during my first mentor day in the OR I had to use lido before sticking the pt.

Sometimes you just have to shake them haters off and roll with it. Welcome back.

Yoga, sincerely glad to see you back.

Athomas, way to go! Crongrats!

I was pissed off by the Lidocaine thread, but most especially about the organ donation/anesthesia thread. My mouth dropped open when I read that one. How anyone with that degree of ignorance could get into anesthesia school in the first place made me seriously rethink applying.....

I recently took PALS, and was interested in the IO route of med/fluid delivery. Is it ever used in anesthesia?

I can't wait to have clinical questions to ask you, Yoga.

Debbie

I recently took PALS, and was interested in the IO route of med/fluid delivery. Is it ever used in anesthesia?

Never seen this at our facility. IO carries a large incidence of infection and is most useful in do or die situations, esp EMS and in the ED. We have excellent pediatrics and they either have a couple of PIVs or the surgeons put in femoral centrals.

Most anesthesiologists who routinely work in PEDS can get an IV on a dehydrated turnip and can easily establish a PIV on probably 95% of pediatric patients.

I am definitely glad to have you back................

I too would like to say thanks for coming back. I have been on the board for some time, although mostly in a reading/observing role. I enjoy the discussions of a clinical nature and a "higher plane". I used this board in researching the profession, getting into school and now as a RRNA (since Jan).

Jess

Yoga, welcome back....I'm glad you decided to stick with us!

AT, congrats. I always love seeing people who have been with the BB for a while progress through their program and become CRNAs!

In a mere 8 weeks or so, I should be able to do the same...I hope!

Don't mess with the veteran nurses. They have worked very hard to arm themselves with knowledge and years of experience. In spite of these, they have one major weakness: they will easily pass on their hard earned wisdom to you as long as you are willing to take off your hat of ignorance and just pay them a little more respect.

Welcome back yoga, crna!:balloons:
