I Am Back

I'm back!!.

As you know, I was upset about the multitude of posts with the lethal combination of ignorance and arrogance. For several weeks, I didn't read All-Nurses, but decided to check in this evening. I guess I just can't let those people win and decided to come back for the fight.

I want to thank all of you for the personal messages. It helped me make the decision to hang in for awhile longer. There are so many of you with such a desire to learn and to share your experience that I must say I really missed you. Also, I really want to see Mike become a CRNA, Maybe then I will retire.

Much of my angst came from the tread about using local before starting IVs and it was not from those of us in anesthesia, including students and our token AA member (got to love you JWK). It was what is, in my observations, what is wrong with nursing (non-anesthesia) today. Lots of opinions that are not evidence or experience based, not reflected in the literature or in valid studies, just opinions. In fact, some of them were so clearly erroneous that I got upset that these people are actually doing patient care and are so misinformed.

As most of you know, I love this field and have devoted over 46 years to it. I would like to keep our discussions on relevant clinical and professional issues where we can all learn from each other. I want to nurture those who want to come into this profession and mentor the ones who are young in the field. Also, I am not afraid of controversy and welcome a good debate and I promise I will always support my arguments with the facts. But I have little patience or time for those who want to start a battle for their own personal reasons and if they do, they should be prepared to own up to their personal motivations.

Let the games begin.

YOGA CRNA

Yoga,

While the busy-ness of second semester have kept me from reading as often as i would like, I did notice your absence and am very glad you are back. To have someone who can offer wisdom from years of experience and is still interested--strike that, put ADVOCATES, continuing competence based in evidence is a treasure that all the posters/readers of these threads benefit from. I am glad you are back and selfishly glad that myself and others will be able to continue to benefit from your advice, knowledge and pearls.

thanks and welcome back,

K

I'm new to the nurse anesthesia scene (start the newly accredited University of North Florida's NA program in August 2006) and have learned a lot from this forum-a true blessing to find this much knowledge and information in one place. I wanted to praise Yoga for returning to the forum, you are needed by many, including rookie students such as myself. I could only hope to be as knowledgeable and helpful as you one day. Thanks and keep on keeping on.

:bowingpur Love your posts-they are awesome!

I want to thank you for your interst in PRIS(propofol infusion syndrome). I have started a new post on the subject. It's to bad there hasn't been much movement by the FDA on a black box for this drug(propofol) for adults. At least the Europeons have got it right.

Again I want to thank you. The more exposure on this complication can only help save more lives.

yoga, i haven't "known" you for very long, but i respect everyone's opinions and statements here.. that's what it's about..

on the initial and lighter side, what was the controversy about local and IV's?

if it is the "necessary to start one", then gimme a break... if i am way out of the loop re: this, the "forgive" me... just chatting here.. anyway, welcome back. and forgive me if i choose to sip (gulp) my beer as i peruse this awesomely frazzled and provoking site..

enjoy, all !

Hey yoga..not a CRNA. Just wanted to say thanks for your 46 years devoted to patient care! I read your posts once in awhile. I am usually looking at the OB forum, but I always enjoy your postings when I drift into the CRNA forum and come across them. There is a lot wrong w/ nursing today. I can't fault you for saying that. Glad you're back!

And welcome back sir. It's nice to have you among other back in this neck of the woods.

46 years is incredible. You have much to offer.

At this point in my profession, I am interested in mentoring students and young CRNAs. Having given so much and received so much from anesthesia, I want to make sure the legacy continues. Nurses have a tendency to "eat their young", nurse anesthetists do not. This is a wonderful profession and I want to welcome all who have an interest in it.
