  1. I have like 850 and have 9 months left.... program director wants everyone to have 1100 plus.... JP
  2. Disclaimer- 1st year SRNA with 70 or so epidurals under my belt. All with a glass syringe- At first I used only air just because in my head it seems easier and some mentors did it that way.... but after trying saline with some sticky syringes.... it is better. And I believe it makes the catheter easier to pass, and allows a sooner, more confident LOR. Just my humble opinion
  3. Thanks for the comments guys. Are any other students having this problem.....maybe elsewhere in the country? I re read the memo today. We can place lines on Midicare pts bc they don't pay crap anyway. (like 15$ for a CL) No placement on BCBS or medicaid. Jess
  4. Here in arkansas and in tx also I believe..... Medicare and BCBS are now not paying one red cent for any lines placed by RRNA/SRNAs..... so my clinical site wont let us place them unless they are medicaid or private pay or other.... Anybody else go through this change recently? My understanding is this is the insurances choice not state/fed?
  5. Tweety I am sure you realize now that it is M. Hyperthermia. That site is a good place for info. Preparation for surgery in the MH is very important but not a huge ordeal, we had a pt this week with a hx and the case went smoothly. Jess
  6. I too would like to say thanks for coming back. I have been on the board for some time, although mostly in a reading/observing role. I enjoy the discussions of a clinical nature and a "higher plane". I used this board in researching the profession, getting into school and now as a RRNA (since Jan). Jess
  7. I think a lot do not with epidurals.... some do with spinals. That is sad and I wish we could know for sure how/when the contamination happened. Jess
  8. I agree with the above vote for Anesthesia Constellation..... I am 5 mos into my program and have found it valuable. skyscape.com Jess
  9. I too was looking for what you are talking about..... to no avail. So then I started a search for the clipboard with calculator and the clear "board" part that has a full page slot for information to go. Thiswas also impossible to find......until the Sevo rep came and gave us exactly what I am describing. Then you just trim the Cusick Anesthesia/Critical Care page and slide it in..... the perfect clipboard except it is a little heavy. Clear as mud.... HTH Jess
  10. I know FN's that are in or have been through TX Weslyan, and Arkansas State.... You can get in with recent flight/past ICU
  11. I am not in Clinicals yet....May 1st! but our students typically have 100-150 epidurals and lots of other regional at graduation.
  12. Nitecap...great thread and I always enjoy reading your posts, you seem to have your crap together. ASU in Jan, 1 month +, 7 tests into it..... not too bad so far, worried about April when we start clinical time 4 days a week! Coors light, Mic ultra light or whatever is in the pitcher that somebody else paid for Later...
  13. How much experience do you have? The more you have the easier I believe the interview will be. Even so, first off RELAX and BE HONEST. Think about why you really want to be a CRNA. Think about what you have done and will do in preparation for school. How do you deal with stress? Look over CV anatomy, Swan stuff, critical care drugs, pressors, etc... The interview for me one year ago (aug 04) was very laid back. If I didn't know the answer I told them what I did know and told them I didn't know what I didn't. Be confident not cocky! In comparison with other school I think it is on the "easier" side, although they are all stressful. OH and dress up - I am a guy, I wore a suit. GOOD LUCK!
  14. I just explained that I was not trying to excel in preparation for grad level education (didn't want to do anes) and I was merely trying to get through school. Also I emphasized that my attitude now is different. There was not much reaction, my interview process was very laid back. The reaction was- I was accepted 6 wks later!
  15. post title said "successfull students" - I start in Jan and hope to be successfull :) GPA:3.0ish yes, yes I know I consider myself lucky and I wasn't considering Anesthesia... GRE: 1040 EXP: 3 yrs ER, will have 1+ yr ICU mix cv/cc/si/mi when school starts in JAN '06 Applied to TWU, ASU. No interview at TWU because of lack of ICU exp (school starts 5 mos sooner than ASU). Accepted at ASU as stated above. Also got an A in the grad level stats - required by ASU. I, as other have said reluctantly post this - pride issue. Advice: I believe the interview to be KEY. On the other hand, to those who are wishing to apply - the "numbers" typically get you to the interview. I believe I explained my undergrad shortcomings in my interview. Also my math and science grades were consistently higher than my gpa reflects (or weighted gpa). There it is, I have heard of students with worse #'s. Like 500-700 GRE scores! Although most schools have a 1000 minimum. I wonder if these were from a long time ago? Jess
