Awesome! You will do great. Stay organized, read, and practice questions until you can't stand it and you will have no problems. When you feel stressed and overwhelmed (and you will) just think of the short-term sacrifice and the long term reward. Think of all your hard work as, not only a means to pass exams and the NCLEX, but for your patients. Something an instructor told us to do our first day was to write your 'Name, RN' with the graduation month/year in big letters on a sheet of paper and place it on the desk or wall where you spend most of your time studying. When it all seems too much, just glance over at it; it helps! It goes by so fast and so slow at the same exact time. That makes no sense but you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. Although long nights of studying seem endless, I will be precepting in seven months, and I just started in May! It's exciting and scary. Good luck, SN!
Just turned 41 and am starting my 2nd semester. Yes, this is a career change for me as well. I've been a hairstylist forever. It's gonna be hard work and these classes will bend and stretch you beyond what you could ever imagine. This is the first time in my life that I am working towards something and it feels like it's EXACTLY what I should be doing! Good luck you can do it!
Congrats! How exciting to embark on a new career :)
After being out of college for 18 years and having a 17 year career in the corporate world, it was definitely a change. However, it's well worth it. I'm so happy finally getting to pursue what I wanted to do years ago.
You'll find your age/life experience will help with your professional demeanor at clinicals. At first, I was worried that I'd be the oldest one and that I wouldn't relate to the other students, who are much younger. It actually has been GREAT! I'm only the 2nd oldest in class and there are 5 of us over 40. Yes, I'm old enough to be some of my fellow students' Mom, but I just love the gals/guys in my cohort. It's been a wonderful experience.
Good luck on your journey through nursing school!!! :)
I started nursing school when I was 45. I worked full time while earning three degrees. Being an older student has advantages - I was not interested in going out all night or talking about boyfriends instead of studying. I could apply life experiences to what I was learning and patients had confidence in me because I was older (they often thought I knew more than I actually did!) Good luck in your new life.

My head is spinning with the thoughts of what's to come but I can't wait!!! So ready for this new chapter of my life to begin...January 26th is the first day of school!!!
Anyone else change careers later in their life and how did it work out for you?
